The safe storage of files for classes has become a concern for many students. With The University of Akron’s mail powered my gmail, Google Drive is provided free through your Akron email account.
Access to Google Drive provides the ability to create and upload the following file types:
- Documents (.doc, .docx, .rtf, etc.)
- Spreadsheets (.xl, .xls, .ots, etc.)
- Presentations (.ppt, .pptx, etc.)
To access Google Drive, visit google.com/drive. From here, you will be prompted to login to your account (use your Akron account information). After logging in, you will be redirected to the Akron sign in page where you will need to resubmit your login information. If you are already logged into your Akron account, the directional bar at the top of your email will also have a link to Google Drive.
In addition to the typical browser login, you can download a desktop version of Google Drive, as well as access the mobile version though the app stores of both Apple and Android products.
Note: If you’re logging in through an Apple or Android device, you may need to enter the login information multiple times.
Once you’ve logged into Google Drive, you have 5GB of space provided for free. With this space, you can upload files that you need to access from sources outside of your personal computer. All files uploaded/created within Google Drive can now be accessed from anywhere. On top of accessing files from multiple devices, these files can also be shared with colleagues.
