Welcome back! We hope you will have an exciting semester. For this edition of Grad News I want to highlight the efforts of Graduate Student Government. GSG has really been active this year and they have developed some important initiatives that all graduate students should find valuable. First, GSG is pleased to announce the creation of the GSG Research Award competition. A formal announcement can be found below and will appear in the UA E-Mail Digest as well as Zipmail. GSG will make funding available to cover expenses related to thesis or dissertation research. The process is competitive and you must apply. The deadline is February 15, 2008. Second, GSG is sponsoring an all-day colloquium on April 16, 2008 that will present speakers on a variety of topics important to graduate students and the event will also include a resume/vitae writing workshop. Please check the GSG website to see what else is going on and when the group meets. http://www.uakron.edu/gradsch/studGovt.php
Please also make note of the forthcoming Conference on Undergraduate and Graduate Student Research which will take place on March 27, 2008. You may submit a proposal for a paper or poster by Friday, February 1, 2008. This is a great place to share your research, and it will add a line to your resume or CV. More information can be found at http://www.uakron.edu/gradsch/cugsr
Finally, below we have provided a listing of some academic job opportunities that have come our way. We hope to increase the number of these, but you may find it worthwhile to check into these opportunities.
Have a great semester!
