Main Purpose: To support research designed to improve the understanding of the processes and institutions of the U.S. economy and of the world system of which it is a part. Multi-disciplinary and multi-investigator research is encouraged and emphasized. Funding is also available for “interdisciplinary research that strengthens links among economics and the other social and behavioral sciences as well as mathematics and statistics.”

- Industrial organization
- International economics
- Labor economics
- Macroeconomics
- Mathematical economics
- Public finance
Benefits: This grant can be used for doctoral dissertation improvement, conferences, workshops, symposia, experimental research, data collection and dissemination, computer equipment and other instrumentation, and research experience for undergraduates.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Although not a requirement, proposals from junior faculty, women, underrepresented minorities, and Research Undergraduate Institutions are encouraged.
- For Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants:
- The dissertation advisor should be listed as the Principal Investigator and the student as the Co-Principal Investigator. It should be clear however that the proposal is written by, and the research conducted by, the student.
- The Proposal Title should read, “Doctoral Dissertation Research in Economics: ….”
