Main Purpose: This grant “supports research into psychological and behavioral aspects of the prevention of injuries in children and adolescents.” This includes accidents, violence, abuse, and suicide.

Oncology Nursing Society Foundation Doctoral Scholarship

Main Purpose: “To provide scholarships to registered nurses who are interested in and committed to oncology nursing to continue their education by pursuing a research doctoral degree (PhD or DNSc) or clinical doctoral degree (DNP).”

Benefits: $5,000-$7,500 annually

AACN-Philips Healthcare Clinical Outcomes Grant

Main Purpose: To fund research that will help achieve “improved outcomes and/or system efficiencies in care of high acuity or critically ill individuals of any age.”

“Especially desirable are proposals for hospital-based inquiry that focus on any of the following:

  • Intervention strategies addressing technology integration into patient care
  • Use of computerized medical record systems in assessing patient outcomes and managing care
  • Improving specific patient care outcomes (e.g., clinical, safety, financial)
  • Use of simulation in clinical education of nurses”

Benefits: Up to $10,000

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Principal investigator must be a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)
  • Investigators will be expected to present completed studies at the National Teaching Institute and Critical Care Exposition
  • “Proposals submitted by an interdisciplinary team or an experienced researcher mentoring a novice will also be considered.”
  • Can be original research or replication of existing research

AACN Impact Research Grant

Main Purpose: “We designed the AACN Impact Research Grant to address gaps in high-acuity and critical care areas of clinical research.”

Ideas for research areas include but are not limited to: the impact of family presence, influencing nurse certification and implementing standards for healthy work environments.

Main Purpose: To help fund research related to critical care nursing practice. It should relate to the American Association of Critical Care Nurses’ five research priorities which are:

The John Merck Fund: Developmental Disabilities Translational Research Program

Main Purpose: To support research that will help improve the treatment and outcomes of individuals with developmental disabilities, specifically Down syndrome and Fragile X syndrome. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged.

  • Ten awards are available of $1 million each ($250,000 per year for four years)

Linguistics Program – Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Awards (Ling-DDRI)

Main Purpose: The Linguistics Program supports research regarding the human language including projects about syntax, linguistic semantics and pragmatics, morphology, phonetics, and phonology.

The program encourages interdisciplinary research, including questions such as:

  • “What are the psychological processes involved in the production, perception, and comprehension of language?
  • What are the computational properties of language and/or the language processor that make fluent production, incremental comprehension or rapid learning possible?
  • How do the acoustic and physiological properties of speech inform our theories of language and/or language processing?
  • What role does human neurobiology play in shaping the various components of our linguistic capacities?
  • How does language develop in children?
  • What social and cultural factors underlie language variation and change?”

Benefits:

  • Dissertation research grant
  • Direct costs may not exceed $12,000 plus indirect costs
  • 25-35 awards available

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Doctoral Student enrolled in a U.S. University
  • Principal Investigator must be advisor of the doctoral student or a faculty member at the U.S. university where the doctoral student is enrolled. The doctoral student will be the Co-PI.
