Main Purpose: “To enhance the public’s knowledge and awareness of cancer prevention, detection, and treatment modalities.”

Oncology Nursing Society Foundation Doctoral Scholarship

Main Purpose: “To provide scholarships to registered nurses who are interested in and committed to oncology nursing to continue their education by pursuing a research doctoral degree (PhD or DNSc) or clinical doctoral degree (DNP).”

Benefits: $5,000-$7,500 annually

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in (or applying to) a PhD, DNSc, or DNP nursing program for the 2015-2016 school year
  • Must currently hold a license to practice as an RN

AACN-Philips Healthcare Clinical Outcomes Grant

Main Purpose: To fund research that will help achieve “improved outcomes and/or system efficiencies in care of high acuity or critically ill individuals of any age.”

“Especially desirable are proposals for hospital-based inquiry that focus on any of the following:

  • Intervention strategies addressing technology integration into patient care
  • Use of computerized medical record systems in assessing patient outcomes and managing care
  • Improving specific patient care outcomes (e.g., clinical, safety, financial)
  • Use of simulation in clinical education of nurses”

Benefits: Up to $10,000

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Principal investigator must be a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)
  • Investigators will be expected to present completed studies at the National Teaching Institute and Critical Care Exposition
  • “Proposals submitted by an interdisciplinary team or an experienced researcher mentoring a novice will also be considered.”
  • Can be original research or replication of existing research

AACN Impact Research Grant

Main Purpose: “We designed the AACN Impact Research Grant to address gaps in high-acuity and critical care areas of clinical research.”

Ideas for research areas include but are not limited to: the impact of family presence, influencing nurse certification and implementing standards for healthy work environments.

Benefits: up to $50,000

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must hold a Master’s degree or have completed candidacy requirements in a BSN-to-PhD or DNP program
  • Must be a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)
  • Research project should last around two years in duration
  • Investigators will be expected to present completed studies at the National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition

AACN-Sigma Theta Tau Critical Care Grant

Main Purpose: To help fund research related to critical care nursing practice. It should relate to the American Association of Critical Care Nurses’ five research priorities which are:

  • Effective and appropriate use of technology to achieve optimal patient assessment, management and/or outcomes
  • Creation of healing, humane environment
  • Processes and systems that foster the optimal contribution of critical care nurses
  • Effective approaches to symptom management
  • Prevention and management of complications

Main Purpose: To support American Indian and Alaskan Native graduate students.

Benefits: $1,000-$5,000 per academic year

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Pursuing a graduate degree at an institution in The United States
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian or Alaskan Native group or able to provide documentation of descent (one-fourth degree verifiable federally recognized Indian blood) by submitting a Tribal Eligibility Certificate

The John Merck Fund: Developmental Disabilities Translational Research Program

Main Purpose: To support research that will help improve the treatment and outcomes of individuals with developmental disabilities, specifically Down syndrome and Fragile X syndrome. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged.

  • Ten awards are available of $1 million each ($250,000 per year for four years)

Main Purpose: “To support dissertation research oriented toward advancing a unified conception of brain and behavior.”

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Completed doctoral candidacy at an accredited institution
  • Research must explore an aspect of mental function (e.g., cognition, affect, motivation) and should utilize behavioral and/or neuroscientific methods
  • IRB approval must be obtained before funding can be awarded if working with human subjects

Daland Fellowships in Clinical Investigation

Main Purpose: Daland Fellowships fund research in the areas of internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery. Patient-oriented research is emphasized.

Benefits:

  • Annual Stipend of $40,000

Time Limit: Fellowship term is one year with the possibility of a one year renewal.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Hold an M.D. or Ph.D for fewer than 8 years
  • Preference given to those with fewer than two years post-doctoral training and research
  • United States Citizen or foreign national
  • Must perform research at an institution in The United States
  • Direct patient contact required
  • Must be nominated by department chairman in a letter providing assurance that the nominee will work with the guidance of a scientific advisor
