The Awesome Foundation Grants

Main Purpose: The Awesome Foundation supports projects of all kinds that will  “conserve, sustain, and support the worldwide ecosystem of awesomeness. Projects have included efforts in a wide range of areas including technology, arts, social good, and beyond.” It is “a micro-genius grant for flashes of micro-brilliance.”

Benefits: $1,000

Eligibility Criteria: no specific criteria, a wide variety of people and projects have been funded.

Freedom and Well-being Post Doctoral Fellowship

Main Purpose: To support students who are serious about pursuing a career in academia with a focus on freedom and well-being.

Benefits: 

  • One-year stipend for the host university
  • Additional resources may be available to allow the fellow to attend academic conferences

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must have earned their PhD in 2014 or the spring of 2015 in history, political science, or philosophy
  • Committed to career in academia and studying freedom and well-being
  • Superior academic record and excellent publication record
  • Tentative arrangement to be hosted at a University within the United States with access to a faculty mentor

Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (AGS-PRF)

Main Purpose: To support beginning researchers within 3 years of completing their PhD in carrying out independent research projects in the areas of atmospheric and geospace sciences.

Benefits:

  • Stipend of $58,000 per year paid monthly at the rate of $4,833 directly to the Fellow
  • An annual lump sum fellowship allowance of $28,000 to support research and publication activities
  • Fellowship may be taken to the institution or facility of choice

Time Limit: up to 2 years

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Current graduate student OR have held a PhD for no more than 3 years
  • Degree in the field of science or engineering with research plans falling in the areas of atmospheric and geospace sciences
  • U.S. citizen or legally admitted permanent resident
  • Proposal must be submitted by an individual, not the institution
  • Individual must identify a host institution or sponsoring scientist
  • May not concurrently submit the same research project to another NSF program

Phillips Fund for Native American Research

Main Purpose: To provide grants for research in the areas of Native American language, history, and culture.

Benefits:

  • Average awards: $2,500, not exceeding $3,500

Time Limit: one year, however two awards are sometimes

  • Young scholar who has received his or her doctorate -OR-
  • Graduate student working on a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation

Daland Fellowships in Clinical Investigation

Main Purpose: Daland Fellowships fund research in the areas of internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery. Patient-oriented research is emphasized.

Benefits:

  • Annual Stipend of $40,000

Time Limit: Fellowship term is one year with the possibility of a one year renewal.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Hold an M.D. or Ph.D for fewer than 8 years
  • Preference given to those with fewer than two years post-doctoral training and research
  • United States Citizen or foreign national
  • Must perform research at an institution in The United States
  • Direct patient contact required
  • Must be nominated by department chairman in a letter providing assurance that the nominee will work with the guidance of a scientific advisor

Main Purpose: To support research related to the nervous system, its functions, and nervous system disorders.

Benefits:

  • $100,000 to $250,000 per year

Main Purpose: To encourage young scholars to conduct research in the field of behavioral economics and that contributes to the mission to improve the social and living conditions in the United States.

  • Must be an advanced doctoral student -OR-
  • Post-doctorate (non-tenured) faculty member who has been out of graduate school for two or fewer years
