Main Purpose: To fund new directions of research regarding petroleum or fossil fuels.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Research must be directly related to petroleum or fossil fuels at nonprofit institutions (usually colleges and universities)
  • Researcher should not have published or received financial support from another funding agency for current proposed research
  • Research must be a “new direction” rather than an extension of the researcher’s previous research

APAGS/Psi Chi Junior Scientist Fellowship

Main Purpose: To support young graduate students in a research-oriented graduate program.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be entering first year or first semester of second year of a research-oriented master’s or doctorate program
  • If program has a practice component, applicant must describe research intentions in personal statement essay
  • Must be a member of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students AND be a member of Psi Chi (therefore first year students must have joined Psi Chi as an undergraduate)

American Sociological Association: Minority Fellowship Program

Main Purpose: To support sociologists of color in pursuing a doctoral degree in any area of sociology.

Benefits:

  • Annual Stipend: $18,000
  • Access to workshops and paper sessions at the American Sociological Association’s Annual Meeting
  • Travel support to scientific conferences,
  • Formal and informal networking

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be enrolled in a program that will grant a Ph.D. in sociology
  • Sufficiently advanced in a Ph.D program that commitment to a research career has been demonstrated (must have completed at least one academic year)
  • Specifically, applicants must be members of one of the following racial/ethnic groups: Blacks/African Americans, Latinos/as (e.g., Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans), American Indians or Alaskan Natives, and Asians (e.g., Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Southeast Asian), or Pacific Islanders (e.g., Hawaiian, Guamanian, Samoan, Filipino).
  • Must be a citizen or non-citizen national of the U.S., or have been lawfully admitted to the U.S. as a permanent residence. Must possess an Alien Registration Card.

Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards: Individual Predoctoral Fellowships

Main Purpose: To provide full-time research training for pre-doctoral researchers and to promote diversity in health-related research including the biomedical and behavioral sciences. Students from diverse racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

  • Stipends
  • Funds for tuition and fees
  • An Institutional Allowance to help cover the cost fellowship expenses
  • Support for research training leading to a Ph.D., combined M.D./Ph.D., or other combined degree in the biomedical or behavioral sciences

Time Limit: up to five years

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be an individual with a disability, from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, or from a disadvantaged background
  • Must be pursuing an advanced degree in the biomedical and behavioral sciences
  • Must hold a baccalaureate degree
  • Must be currently enrolled in a doctoral program
  • Must be U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or lawfully admitted permanent resident
