This document is a code of best practices that helps creators, online providers, copyright holders, and others interested in the making of online video interpret the copyright doctrine of fair use. Fair use is the right to use copyrighted material without permission or payment under some circumstances.

This is a guide to current acceptable practices, drawing on the actual activities of creators, as discussed among other places in the study Recut, Reframe, Recycle: Quoting Copyrighted Material in User-Generated Video and backed by the judgment of a national panel of experts. It also draws, by way of analogy, upon the professional judgment and experience of documentary filmmakers, whose own code of best practices has been recognized throughout the film and television businesses.

Dr. Punya Mishra & Dr. Matthew J. Koehler
Michigan State University
The ability to be creative and flexible is critical in face of a rapidly changing world. Nowhere is this more important than in teaching. Digital technology is playing an increasing important role in the world of teaching, offering the potential to fundamentally change the practice and process of teaching and learning. These changes, however, present significant challenges to teachers and teacher educators. Confronting these challenges requires moving beyond notions of just integrating technology to an understanding of the complex issues teachers face. In this session, we present the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework as a way of thinking about teacher knowledge, technology integration, and teacher creativity. TPACK, with its emphasis on the interaction teachers’ knowledge of Content, Pedagogy, and Technology, places teachers front and center as designers of curriculum, who flexibly and creatively integrate technology and pedagogical approaches to help their students understand subject matter.

Hello all,
Field Experience Binders and E-Porfolios are due on November 15 which is a Saturday. I will be on Campus on Friday, Nov 14 and can stay late if anyone is planing to drop off their projects–please let me know! The timeline will allow for feedback on your projects and time for revision if needed.

E-Portfolio submission by Nov 15 can be by sending me the URL through e-mail if you have developed your E-portfolio in your zipspace or on another website. I will provide feedback from there, but you will still need to burn to a CD and submit that ASAP after your initial feedback. The CD will then be checked for links, etc before final approval is given. Please make sure you submit electronically or drop off the E-Portfolio Alignment Document required if you are going to apply for the Computer K-12/Technology Facilitation Endorsement–this document is attached. Basically you need to show that you have met 3-4 of the objectives in any one section. One artifact in your portfolio could satisfy many objectives.

Field Experience Binders and E-Portfolio CDs can be dropped off at the Educational Foundations and Leadership office 3rd floor in Zook Hall any day between 8:30am and 4:30pm. If you need to drop it off after this time, please contact me to make special arrangements. I am here online all the time for any questions or concerns. A few people have contacted me and shared that they do not have time to devote to these important items this term and will be completing in the Spring. Please let me know if this is your situation so I can note that, also please be in contact with Kelly Fay if you are a cohort student and decide to delay your graduation.

Thanks and good luck in your courses as the term draws near completion,
Dr. Ward

Utilizing Interactive Whiteboards
Because the increasing number of students diagnosed with autism affects all teachers and administrators, ISTE is offering a webinar that will illustrate how interactive whiteboards can be used to improve learning among students with neurological impairments. The webinar will draw examples from a residential special education school in New Hampshire to show how schools can implement this technology. Learn how to increase on-task behaviors, enable social learning, and engage students in your classroom. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 4 pm Eastern
