Publications and Appointments

Dr. Ramona Ortega-Liston’s article “Children Smuggled into the United States from Central America and China: A Case Study of the Unaccompanied Minors Shelter Care Program” appears in the December 2007 edition of Public Performance and Management Review.

In other news, Dr. Ortega-Liston was selected (September 4th, 2007) as one of the participants in Ohio’s Opinion Leaders Program by Kevin DeWine, Deputy Chairman of the Ohio GOP. And, in July 2007, she was Ohio’s delegate to the 33rd Republican National Hispanic Assembly, a part of which included a visit to the White House for briefings on Immigration and Education.

In December 2007, Dr. RaJade M. Berry-James received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for Outstanding Public Service to the Community from The Honorable Betty Sutton, U.S. House of Representative, Congressional District Number 13 of Ohio. In addition, she received the Leaf of Life Award from the Community Health Center in Akron, Ohio for her contributions to secure funding to provide substance abuse treatment for community residents.

Returning Fulbright Chair

We welcome back Dr. Raymond Cox III this semester from McGill Institute in Montreal, Quebec, where he was studying public policy issues affecting the United States and Canada. Dr. Cox spent the fall semester at McGill as part of the Fulbright Distinguished Chair’s Program. He is the first professor at The University of Akron to receive this distinction. In particular, Dr. Cox sought to expand his research on ethics in Canadian municipalities.
