This is normal.  By default, students will no longer see a course after the semester ends.  However, some instructors occasionally decide to remove the course ‘end date’.  In this case, your instructor has most likely decided that you would benefit from ongoing access to the course content.  If you have any questions about a course that is still appearing in your course list, you could ask the instructor.

We worked with the vendor to apply emergency hotfixes to improve system performance.  Early testing suggests that the performance has improved.  We are continuing to monitor performance, but please let us know if you experience any unusual slowness or errors.  We apologize for the inconvenience the issue has caused.

We are aware that users have experienced periods of slow response times in Springboard over the past few days.  We have been working with Desire2Learn to identify and resolve system performance issues in Version 10.1.  We apologize for the inconvenience this is causing and we will keep you informed of steps we are taking to resolve the issue.

Design and Development Services is looking for additional membership for the Springboard Faculty Steering Committee. As a user of online classrooms you are a key stakeholder, with vested interest in our Learning Management System (LMS), and we value your opinion. Time commitment will include one meeting per semester, along with receiving report updates, and voluntary email contact.

The purpose of the steering committee is to make recommendations regarding a broad range of issues. This may include such items as how we address training needs, approaches to support, upgrade timelines, as well as piloting new tools and features. We will look to you for reporting problems you encounter, and suggest improvements or new feature requests you would like relayed to Desire2Learn.

The Springboard Faculty Steering Committee will meet on Thursday, October 27, 2011 in Leigh Hall 414 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.

If you are interested in serving on this committee, contact Jill Phipps at 330.972.2431 or via email at phipps@uakron.edu.

Courses for Fall 2011 have been brought in to Springboard. Instructors – now would be a great time to request that your Fall courses be combined! You can request course merges by sending an email to springboardhelp@uakron.edu. Please be sure to include the course number (1234:567-890, for example) for each course that you would like to have combined.

The Springboard upgrade has been completed, and the site should now be available. Please report any issues to the ZipSupport Center at springboardhelp@uakron.edu, or by phone at 330.972.6888. Thank you for your patience, and welcome back!

For Summer 2011, we are pleased to announce that we will be upgrading to Desire2Learn (Springboard) Version 9.2 on May 11. Version 9.2 includes new features and improvements, including:

  • The ability to post to discussions from a mobile device
  • Dramatic improvements to Rubrics
  • Integrated audio recording from within multiple areas of the Learning Environment and ePortfolio
  • Enhancements to the Pager
  • New release conditions, including user enrollment dates and rubric scores
  • Ability to grade quizzes by question, including blind grading for essay questions

In order to install the upgrade, Springboard will be unavailable on May 11th. Updates will be posted here on the Springboard blog.

The new version of Springboard (D2L 9.2) is coming and is set to become active on May 11th, but it is already active on our test system! That means that you can try out the new features now and help us ensure that they are fully functional before the upgrade to our production environment. One of the many new features that will be available—which is available right now in the test environment— are new release conditions.

The new release conditions will give you greater flexibility in the release of content, quizzes, etc. to your students. You will be able to more efficiently control which students may access course materials and when they may access them. The new release conditions that will be available are:

  • Under Classlist: Date of Enrollment in the Current Course
  • Under Quizzes: Score on Selected Questions and Score on Associated Rubrics

What’s in it for my students and me?

  • Allow students or groups of students to move at their own pace through the content and those struggling on particular assignments or questions will need to meet proficiency before moving on.
  • In a seminar course with rolling enrollment, allow groups of students to access materials at different times.

To view a video demonstration of the new release conditions, select the picture below.

One of the many new features that will be available—which is available right now in the test environment— is the ability to change dates for the news in the manage dates area.

No longer will you have to go into each individual news item to change its date settings, you can now change them all en masse quickly and easily in the manage dates tool. What’s in it for my students and me?

  • Quickly change release and closing dates for one or more news items.
  • Save time by offsetting all news item dates at the same time after copying course content from a previous course.
