Spring enrollment numbers are strong

Our 14-day enrollment figures for the spring semester reveal continuing strength in the areas of recruitment and retention. Total enrollment is 23,754, an increase of 4 percent over the spring semester of 2007. Other highlights of the 14-day numbers:

  • Student credit-hour production is up 5.3 percent over the previous spring semester.
  • Total undergraduate headcount is up 775 students to 19,619 — that’s a 4.1 percent increase. Total graduate headcount is up 139 students, a 4 percent increase.

  • Enrollment for full-time students is up more than 5 percent for both undergraduates and graduates. The full-time undergraduate headcount is up 7.3 percent over the last spring semester. For graduates, it is up 3.1 percent.
  • Enrollment of new undergraduates — that is, students who are starting at UA this semester — is up to 1,005 students. That is up 9.7 percent over the previous spring.

Interest in the University continues to be measured at ever-higher numbers. As of Feb. 4, we have received 9,041 new-freshman applications for fall; that is up 12 percent over the same period last year.

About 1,000 admitted students and their parents are expected on campus for Senior Day on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Highlights of the day include an academic fair in which students and parents can learn about degree programs and the student services available on campus.

No classes will be held on the 18th because of the Presidents Day observation.
