It’s Academy Awards season, when the best motion pictures are honored.

Inside Rob’s CafeIt’s also Ivy Awards season, when the nation’s best restaurant and food-service operations are celebrated. This year, The University of Akron’s Dining Services operation is among the handful of finalists for the coveted national award and a place in the elite Ivy Society.

Winners will be announced May 17-20 at the National Restaurant Show in Chicago. UA is competing in the noncommercial operations category against universities across the nation.

“It is a tremendous honor to be nominated by your peers,” said Zia Ahmed, director of UA’s dining services. “Each year, previous award winners are asked to nominate a new slate of exemplary restaurants, hotels and institutions to join the Ivy Society. I am extremely proud to see the hard work of my team members is being recognized.”

In the last year, Dining Services has renovated Rob’s Café, giving the department the opportunity to better display the creativity of its culinary team. The department’s catering business remains brisk as well, due in large part to its ability to offer high quality food and service for any size or type or event.
