About WHP

Women’s History Project of the Akron Area

For more than 20 years, the Women’s History Project of the Akron Area (WHP) has celebrated the roles women have played in the history of the city, the county and the region.

Through its Women of the Year awards, WHP has honored many women from the greater Akron community who have worked to improve the quality of life for others. These women reflect the area’s rich religious, racial, political and economic diversity.

Always an organization committed to strengthening woman-focused education, WHP has worked with local schools to develop curriculum materials relating to women in history, with the libraries by providing books and other reading materials, and with the Girl Scouts by donating women’s history kits filled with books and games and by developing activities for a special “women’s history” patch.

This website represents yet another means of educating the public about the many contributions that women have made – and continue to make – to the Akron area.
