Women in Akron History

Women have always been important to the history of Akron, Ohio, but their contributions have been seldom chronicled. This website represents the first step in acknowledging the women who have contributed so much to the city.

The women profiled on this site made important contributions to the city through the jobs they held, the business they ran or the volunteer work they did. They come from different time periods — from the antebellum (pre-Civil War) time period to today. They represent different religions, races, political parties and economic orientations. But they all share one thing – they helped change the face of the city of Akron.
