Job Description

This posting is for Student/Temporary Help in two separate programmatic areas; one is in the Water Quality Program and the other is in the Mosquito Program. The Student/Temporary Help position performs programmatic activities under supervision, conducts field inspections, and collects samples. Must display initiative and follow through in completing tasks; be reliable, mature and adaptable; interact successfully with the community and co­workers regardless of their social, ethnic, or religious status; comply with agency objectives, philosophy and policies. Work under the general direction and guidance of the program coordinator and supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable automobile available
  • At least liability insurance on the vehicle
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and background check
  • Clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • College or university science/health majors preferred
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or graduate degree or be a recent graduate seeking practical experience in the field
  • Must have an understanding of basic biology or science, and must be capable of learning to respond to questions and concerns from general public
  • Certificate of registration or pursuing a certificate of registration as a Sanitarian­In­ Training
  • Mechanical experience

Description of Job Duty

• May investigate mosquito complaints in an assigned area
• Informing residents of steps for mosquito abatement
• Mosquito surveillance
• Larviciding for mosquito breeding sites
• Reading and maintaining accurate maps and data
• Responsible for various program equipment
• May perform evening adult mosquito spray treatments utilizing a truck mounted sprayer up to five nights per week
• May assist in data entry or research
• May assist with special mosquito spray applications as needed (parks, special events, etc.)
• Employee has the obligation, set forth by the Summit County Public Health Emergency Operations Plan and within the scope of their employment, to be available for emergency service during routine and non-routine hours of operation including 24/7/365 availability.
