Each semester, The Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics at the University of Akron offers the course Campaign Battleground to undergraduate, graduate and continuing education students.
This diverse class follows political campaigns in real time. Campaign Battleground provides students with the unique opportunity to discuss the politics with each other and with weekly guest speakers, who range from political journalists and campaign consultants to judges, police chiefs and local, state and federal government officials.
Each week’s class session has three segments. First, students recap a current political topic of their choice in “Week in Review”. Next, Bliss Institute Director Dr. John C. Green interviews the week’s guest speaker. Students then engage in a Q&A forum with the guest speaker.
Campaign Battleground is held in closed sessions on Tuesday evenings. Those not enrolled in the course can stay up-to-date on the discussions by visiting our class blog.
