My parents<br \/>\nboth grew up in Cleveland, and my father passed away in 2011 as the<br \/>\nnet result of a long struggle with addiction. This personal experience,<br \/>\ncoupled with my specialization in criminal defense, has given me an<br \/>\nacute sensitivity to substance abuse and the dangers of unchecked<br \/>\naddiction. My candidacy for Judge is founded on my passion for helping<br \/>\ncitizens navigate the complex criminal and civil justice system. I have<br \/>\nbeen a practicing attorney for 14 years with local firms and for the past<br \/>\n6 years, I have owned a small business in Cuyahoga County. My law<br \/>\npractice, Darling Duffy Legal Services, represents citizens and<br \/>\nbusinesses with a variety of civil and criminal needs. I lead all trial<br \/>\nmatters, providing me with front row experience and expertise on<br \/>\ncourtroom procedure and due process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(3) Why are you running for this particular court seat?<\/strong><br \/>\nJudge Carolyn Friedland is retiring after a distinguished and admirable<br \/>\nnearly 30 year career as a Judge. My temperament and my passion for<br \/>\ntreating all citizens involved in the judicial process with dignity, respect<br \/>\nand compassion is an ideal and appropriate continuation of her<br \/>\ndistinguished service.
