\nVillage of Laurelville Magistrate for approximately 4 years Law Clerk in
\nthe U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit<\/p>\n

(2) What about your non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a<\/strong>
\njudge?<\/strong>
\nI have been practicing law for 30 years. My legal experience includes
\ncriminal law, both prosecution and public defender, domestic relations
\nlaw, business law, general litigation, civil rights litigation, class actions in
\nfederal court, and legal aid representation. I have handled cases in all
\nlevels of courts in Ohio, including arguing cases before the Ohio
\nSupreme Court. I have also handled cases in the federal district courts
\nin Ohio. I have extensive jury trial experience having presented nearly
\n100 jury trials, ranging from felony thefts to capital murder.
\nI have prosecuted in multiple counties in Ohio, so I have a varied
\nperspective on court scheduling and case management. I have practiced
\nas a public defender and a prosecutor, thus I have a balanced
\nperspective on criminal cases. I have a calm and easy demeanor which
\nwill create a professional and courteous court environment for
\nattorneys and litigants\/parties. I adhere to the Golden Rule: treat
\nothers as you want to be treated, and that is how I would run the court.
\nI am diligent about being on time and would run the court in a timely
\nmanner. I have run my own law practice for over 20 years.
\nConsequently, I have operated an office within budgetary constraints,
\nand with an eye on cost containment.<\/p>\n

(3) Why are you running for this particular court seat?<\/strong>
\nI have three primary goals as Judge. First, violent and repeat offenders
\nand drug traffickers need to be sentenced more harshly to protect the
\npublic and reduce the influx of drugs into our county.
\nSecond, I have a plan to work with our other courts on an united front
\nto deal with the drug epidemic. I want to access grant funding to
\nestablish transitional programs for individuals successfully completing
\ndrug treatment. Job training, housing, and transportation are among
\nthe obstacles and impediments for successful sobriety in our
\ncommunity. Working with local, state and federal partners to form a
\ncollaborative effort to deal with the opioid crisis is necessary to achieve
\nsuccess. Our community is too small and economically challenged to
\nrun separate court programs. We need to work together to find a
\nsolution that works for us and not worry about who gets the credit.
\nThird, I intend to improve case management and court scheduling to
\nreduce the costs to tax payers and enhance public safety. I will make
\nmore use of the jail facility and I intend to run court on time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
