Judge Jill presides over felony criminal cases including<br \/>\nmurder, rape, and robbery. Judge Jill also presides over high dollar civil<br \/>\nmatters. Judge Jill has served at the Common Pleas Court since April of<br \/>\n2017 and presently serves as Judge of the Common Pleas Court. Judge<br \/>\nJill is a member of the Ohio Judicial College and serves on the<br \/>\nCommunity Corrections Committee. Judge Jill was formerly the judge<br \/>\nof the Barberton Municipal Court.<br \/>\nAt the Barberton Municipal Court, Judge Jill founded and presided over<br \/>\nthe Barberton Municipal Drug Court. Judge Jill heard misdemeanor<br \/>\njury trials and civil matters. Judge Jill served as the judge at the<br \/>\nBarberton Municipal Court from February 2015 until April of 2017.<br \/>\nBefore becoming a judge in two different courts, Judge Jill was a<br \/>\nsubstitute magistrate at the Akron Municipal Court. At the Akron<br \/>\nMunicipal Court, Judge Jill presided over traffic court and small claims<br \/>\ncourt. Judge Jill served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Judge<br \/>\nAlison McCarty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(2) What about your non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>judge?<\/strong><br \/>\nPrior to becoming judge, Judge Jill was a trial attorney who advocated<br \/>\nfor vulnerable people and abused children. Judge Jill worked at the<br \/>\nStark County Prosecutor\u2019s Office, handling traffic and criminal matters<br \/>\ninvolving juvenile offenders. Judge Jill has been a strong advocate for<br \/>\nabused children. She served as Guardian ad Litem in the Summit<br \/>\nCounty Juvenile Court. Judge Jill is a published writer on the subject of<br \/>\nchildhood sexual abuse litigation.<br \/>\nAs an advocate, Judge Jill won an appeal at the Ohio Supreme Court<br \/>\nthat enhanced the rights of childhood sexual abuse victims in civil<br \/>\ncases. Judge Jill gained notoriety through her advocacy for abused<br \/>\nchildren in several high-profile cases. Judge Jill advocated for disabled<br \/>\nchildren who needed services through their school system. Judge Jill<br \/>\nwas a member of the Council of Parent Attorney Advocates (COPAA)<br \/>\nand served at an Organization called \u201cEquip For Equality.\u201d Judge Jill\u2019s<br \/>\nson was diagnosed with autism at age two so protecting people with<br \/>\ndisabilities was personal to her.<br \/>\nAs a private practitioner, Judge Jill acted as counsel in numerous jury<br \/>\nand bench trials at both the federal and state level. Her practice<br \/>\nincluded research, writing, and appellate work, arguing before the<br \/>\nNinth District, Tenth District, and Eleventh District Court of Appeals<br \/>\nand the Ohio Supreme Court. Judge Jill was a member of the Ohio Bar,<br \/>\nIllinois Bar and was admitted to practice before the Federal Courts of<br \/>\nthe Northern District of Ohio, Northern District of Illinois, and<br \/>\nSouthern District of Ohio. Judge Jill is a graduate of the Trial Lawyers<br \/>\nCollege and taught at the Trial Lawyers College as a faculty member.<br \/>\nJudge Jill Lanzinger is married to her husband, Dr. William Lanzinger,<br \/>\nM.D. They have been married for 17 years and reside in Green\/Portage<br \/>\nLakes. Judge Lanzinger is an avid runner who has completed four full<br \/>\nmarathons and at least a dozen half marathons. Judge Lanzinger is<br \/>\nactive in her community, serving on the boards of two charitable<br \/>\norganizations, the Portage Lakes Advisory Council, the Polar Bear Club<br \/>\n(Polar Bear Jump). Additionally, Judge Lanzinger is a member of the<br \/>\nPortage Lakes Kiwanis, the Magic City Kiwanis, the Green Chamber of<br \/>\nCommerce, Stow Chamber of Commerce, the Cuyahoga Falls Chamber,<br \/>\nand the Green Opiate Task Force. Judge Lanzinger is a member Akron<br \/>\nBar Association and is an Akron Bar Foundation Fellow. Judge Jill is a<br \/>\nlifetime member of the NAACP.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(3) Why are you running for this particular court seat?<\/strong><br \/>\nAs Judge of the Summit County Common Pleas Court, I promote justice<br \/>\nfor victims of crime. As Judge, I am in a position to help protect the<br \/>\npeople within the jurisdiction. I care about the safety and future of our<br \/>\ncommunity. As a long-time resident of this community and mother of<br \/>\nthree children, I\u2019m committed to justice and progress in the Summit<br \/>\nCounty Common Pleas Court. As judge, my work addressing the heroin<br \/>\nepidemic needs to be continued.<br \/>\nAt the Barberton Municipal Court, I founded and presided over the<br \/>\nBarberton Municipal Drug Court. We must combat the heroin epidemic<br \/>\ntogether as a community. I partnered with leaders in the community to<br \/>\nestablish a drug court. As a Common Pleas Court Judge, I help people<br \/>\nget access to treatment. As judge, I promote the use of technology in<br \/>\nthe court. The use of technology saves the taxpayers and parties money<br \/>\nand time.<br \/>\nAs judge, I have implemented the use of Skype and Facetime for court<br \/>\nproceedings. I\u2019m advocating for a paperless environment and e-filing.<br \/>\nInnovative use of technology is essential to the administration of<br \/>\njustice. As your judge, I will continue to use my experience and<br \/>\nknowledge to move the Summit County Common Pleas Court forward.<br \/>\nI will continue to work hard and make improvements to the Court that<br \/>\nwill benefit our community.
