Students interested in applying for a \u00a0fall 2012 PIL award should now begin thinking about and securing a public interest placement for their fall PIL work experience. The PIL program supports and encourages those students who would like to gain experience in public interest areas. Recent local placements have included:<\/p>\n<p>Cleveland Homeless Legal Assistance Program<br \/>\nCommunity Legal Aid Services of Akron<br \/>\nCity of Canton, Public Safety and Service Departments<br \/>\nMahoning County Prosecutor<br \/>\nNational Labor Relations Board<br \/>\nNinth District Court of Appeals<br \/>\nOhio Civil Rights Commission<br \/>\nU.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office<br \/>\nStark County Public Defender&#8217;s Office<br \/>\nSummit County Prosecutor<br \/>\nCASA Guardian Ad Litem\/Summit County Juvenile Court<br \/>\nUniversity of Akron Legal Clinic\/Appellate Review Office<br \/>\nU.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office<br \/>\nU.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0If you think you would like to do this work, but have no idea how to line up a placement, please feel free to call upon Professor Koosed (statewide agencies), Professor Carro (Akron), Career Planning Director, Barbara C. Weinzierl, Esq. (general) or Assistant Career Planning Director, Alisa Benedict O\u2019Brien.\u00a0 The deadline to submit your application for fall 2012 funding is<strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> Monday, September 17 at 12:00 Noon.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 It is expected that you will secure a placement in advance of submitting your application.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The application form is to be filled out by the student\/applicant.\u00a0 The organization that will employ you as a volunteer law clerk and will provide supervision will need to confirm that in a letter on their letterhead\/stationary.\u00a0 They will need to include your start date, end date, number of hours per week on average, supervisor&#8217;s name, and a sentence describing your anticipated duties.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">This letter also needs to be submitted by the application deadline of Monday, Monday, September 17, 2012 at 12:00 Noon<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong><em>Application guidelines can be obtained in the Career Planning and Placement Office or online at <\/em><\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uakron.edu\/law\/career\/students\/public-interest-law-program---stipend-application.dot?previewPage=2&amp;host_id=1\">https:\/\/www.uakron.edu\/law\/career\/students\/public-interest-law-program&#8212;stipend-application.dot?previewPage=2&amp;host_id=1<\/a><\/strong><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fall 2012 Akron Law Public Interest Law Program &#8211; applications for the fall 2012 Public Interest Law (PIL) program will be accepted beginning Monday, August 27, 2012.
