SUMMER JOB PLACEMENT AWARD<\/strong><\/p>\n

APPLICATION DEADLINE:\u00a0 APRIL 6, 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n

$2000.00 minimum to one upper class law student<\/strong><\/p>\n

Must work 20 hours per week for not less than 10 weeks<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0The School of Law is accepting applications for the David D. Dowd Sr. Memorial Award. Named in tribute to a distinguished attorney dedicated to public service and created by Judge David D. Dowd, Jr. upon the 25th<\/sup> anniversary of his service in the federal judiciary, the purpose of the Dowd Award is to promote a commitment to public service for all lawyers.\u00a0 Dowd Awards are directed to Akron Law students interested in seeking professional careers in public service following graduation.<\/p>\n

\u00a0To be eligible, you must: <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Complete your second year by Spring of 2013<\/li>\n
  2. Show a commitment to public service<\/li>\n
  3. Be capable of working\u00a0 20 hours per week during the summer of 2013 for minimum\u00a0 of ten weeks in a public service position<\/li>\n
  4. Be committed to working in a public setting upon graduation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u00a0Placements this summer – in order of preference:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    1st<\/sup> Preference:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>The Summit County Prosecutor\u2019s Office, The Stark County Prosecutor\u2019s Office, The Wayne County Prosecutor\u2019s Office; law departments for Akron, Canton, Massillon; and Public Defender\u2019s Offices in Summit and Stark counties.<\/p>\n

    \u00a02nd<\/sup> Preference:<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Northern District of Ohio or the Public\u00a0Defender\u2019s Office for the District<\/p>\n

    \u00a03rd<\/sup> Preference:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Other prosecutors\u2019 or law directors\u2019 offices<\/p>\n

    \u00a04th<\/sup> Preference:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Other not already listed public service agencies<\/p>\n

    \u00a0The student will be expected to work 20 hours per week for not less than 10 weeks.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/span>If you are interested in being considered for this award, please submit a cover letter and resume to Kristina Floyd in the Career Planning Office at <\/strong>kmf12@uakron.edu<\/strong><\/a> or by hard copy by April 1, 2013. Students must arrange for their own\u00a0placements with one\u00a0of the organizations listed above before submitting their applications. Students in the upper 30% of the class will be given preference. Students should list short and long term goals, and explain why the student wishes to work in a particular office, as noted above.
