\u00a0SELECTION AND PROMOTION POTENTIAL:<\/strong>\u00a0 If selection is made at the GS-9 level, position has promotion potential to the GS-11.\u00a0 If selection is made at the GS-11 level, position has promotion potential to the GS-12 level.\u00a0 If selection is made at the GS-12 level, position has no known promotion potential.<\/p>\n

\u00a0DUTIES:<\/strong> Incumbent serves as an attorney-adviser to one or more Administrative Law Judges (ALJs), rendering advice and assistance in pre-hearing development and preparation of cases for hearing, post-hearings development and other post-hearing actions.\u00a0 Analyzes, researches, and develops cases, formulates comprehensive decisions and, otherwise, acts on requests for hearings held under titles II, XI, XVI and XVIII of the Social Security Act, as amended.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0GS-09 Level<\/strong>\u00a0 – First Professional Law Degree (J.D.) PLUS proof of current membership in the Bar.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GS-11 Level \u2013<\/strong> ALL requirements for the GS-9 PLUS one of the following:<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1.\u00a0 One year of substantial professional legal experience; (or)<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 A second Professional Law Degree (LL.M.), which requires one full year of graduate study.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 The First Professional Law Degree provided the applicant\u2019s records to reflect superior law student work or activities as demonstrated by one of the following:<\/p>\n

A.\u00a0 Academic standing in the upper third of the law school graduating class as reflected in a copy of their transcripts (Must submit transcript).<\/p>\n

B.\u00a0 OR work or achievement of significance on the law school\u2019s official law review.<\/p>\n

C.\u00a0 OR special high level honor for academic excellence in law school, such as election to the Order of the Coif, OR winning of a moot court competition, OR membership on the moot court team which represents the law school in competition with other law schools.<\/p>\n

\u00a0D.\u00a0 OR full-time or continuous participation in a legal aid program as opposed to a one-time, intermittent, or casual participation.<\/p>\n

E.\u00a0 OR significant law office clerk experience.<\/p>\n

F.\u00a0 OR other equivalent evidence of superior achievements.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GS-12 Level –<\/strong> GS-11 requirements PLUS one year of professional legal experience equivalent to the GS-11 Level.<\/p>\n

\u00a0CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENT:<\/strong> Applicants must be U.S. Citizens.\u00a0 Applicants will be required to complete Form I-9 and present proof of identity and employment eligibility if selected.<\/p>\n

\u00a0SELECTIVE SERVICE REQUIREMENT:<\/strong> Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 will be required to certify their selective service registration.<\/p>\n

1. \u00a0OF-612, “Optional Application for Federal Employment”, OR a detailed Resume. (Do not submit writing samples)<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Law School class rank (if upper third of law school graduating class, copy of transcripts must be submitted).<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Proof of current Bar membership.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 OPM Form 1386B, “Applicant Race and National Origin Questionnaire”. Submission of this Form is voluntary.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Applicants claiming Veteran’s Preference should submit a Form DD-214 which also lists the character of discharge.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Applicants claiming 10 point Veteran Preference should submit SF-15, “Claim for 10 point Veteran Preference” and copy of their VA letter stating the percentage of disability.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 Applicants must clearly indicate on their application\/resume the lowest acceptable grade (i.e.,GS-09, GS-11, or GS-12).<\/p>\n
