{"id":5216,"date":"2011-01-12T16:15:00","date_gmt":"2011-01-12T21:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/law\/?p=5216"},"modified":"2011-01-12T16:15:00","modified_gmt":"2011-01-12T21:15:00","slug":"pro-bono-opportunity-at-legal-aid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/law\/2011\/01\/12\/pro-bono-opportunity-at-legal-aid\/","title":{"rendered":"Pro Bono Opportunity at Legal Aid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Volunteer Legal Services Program (VLSP)\u00a0at Community Legal Aid has <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">an urgent need<\/span><\/strong> for volunteer law students in its Bankruptcy Project.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The Jerome L. Holub Pro Bono Bankruptcy Project is a collaborative project between the Akron Bar Association, Community Legal Aid, and the law school.\u00a0 Students get hands on experience talking to and meeting with clients (with attorney supervision) to help prepare cases for volunteer attorneys that participate in the Project.\u00a0 Students may also have opportunities to prepare bankruptcy petitions, contact local attorneys, attend bankruptcy hearings, and assist volunteer attorneys when they need further assistance.\u00a0\u00a0Students will receive\u00a0substantive training on bankruptcy law.\u00a0 An interest in practicing bankruptcy law is not necessary,\u00a0but the skills learned are transferrable to many areas of law.\u00a0VLSP is looking for students to commit 8-10 hours a week to the project.\u00a0 Most students choose to volunteer a full day or volunteer 2 mornings or afternoons per week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0This work qualifies as Pro Bono for Limited Means towards the community service graduation requirement.\u00a0 For more information on participating in the Bankruptcy Project or if you have questions in general, please contact Professor Joann Sahl (<a title=\"mailto:jsahl1@uakron.edu\" href=\"mailto:jsahl1@uakron.edu\">jsahl1@uakron.edu<\/a>), Mr. Joel Holt (<a title=\"mailto:jah47@uakron.edu\" href=\"mailto:jah47@uakron.edu\">jah47@uakron.edu<\/a>), or Jennifer J. van Dulmen, Managing Attorney, Volunteer Legal Services Program (330-983-2531).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Volunteer Legal Services Program (VLSP)\u00a0at Community Legal Aid has an urgent need for volunteer law students in its Bankruptcy Project.\u00a0 \u00a0The Jerome L.
