All students, including students of color, LGBT students, women, first-generation college graduates, and &#8220;non-traditional&#8221; law students, are welcome in chambers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dates: <\/strong>The externship commences with a mandatory orientation\u00a0program on Friday, May 17, 2019, and will run through Friday, July 19, 2019. Students accepted into the program may seek academic credit but are not required to do so.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties: <\/strong>The primary focus of your work will be\u00a0e the review and analysis of parties&#8217; arguments for a discretionary review of intermediate appellate court decisions. Judicial externs will prepare memoranda that summarize the relevant facts, claims, and the law of particular cases and make recommendations as to the disposition of those discretionary appeals, including a suggestion on whether the Ohio Supreme court should accept the appeal. (The process is similar to the analysis undertaken on petitions for certiorari to the United States Supreme Court.)\u00a0 Research projects may also be assigned to the extern. The student may also work on merit opinions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications: <\/strong>1L, 2L. Excellent research, analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills. Due to the sensitive and confidential nature\u00a0of the work involved, the successful applicant must also be mature, responsible, reliable, and discrete.\u00a0A background check is required for this position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time Commitment: <\/strong>Externs must be available for at least 16 hours weekly and attend oral arguments held\u00a0by the court over the summer session. Those dates include May 21 and June 11 and 12.\u00a0 Externs will also be expected to attend bi-weekly meetings with attorneys and judges who participate in the networking and mentoring components of the externship program, as well as weekly supervision sessions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Apply:\u00a0 P<\/strong>lease submit a resume, law school transcript, and a brief cover letter setting forth your interest in the position.
