The person who needs a guardian is known as a ward. The\npurpose of the Court Angel Visitor Program is to provide the Court with a way\nto obtain current information about the wards and to verify that each is\nreceiving good care. This information will assist the Court in making\nrecommendations or orders for improvements, if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Duties:\n<\/em><\/strong>The Court Angel: Visits the ward&#8217;s residence, observes\nconditions, and talks with the ward about their needs; Talks to the guardian\nand any other caregivers; Uses a standard reporting form to record observations\nand make any recommendations; The visit may uncover specific needs, for\nexample:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>* The ward mentions that\nit has been well over a year since the last medical examination.* The guardian\nis an elderly parent who is now too frail to care for her mentally challenged\nadult child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Court\nAngel Qualifications: <\/em><\/strong>Good listening and communication\nskills, friendliness, and common sense;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Willingness to use a\nstandard case reporting form; Desire to see that persons with serious mental or\nphysical disabilities receive good care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Training\nand Support<\/em><\/strong>: Covers the guardianship process, ward&#8217;s rights,\ncommunicating with wards, what to look for on visits, and available community\nresources; Court Angels are provided support by the Probate Court staff;\nFollow-up training and quarterly meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Time and Place:<\/em><\/strong>\nSuggested minimum time is one day per month; Court Angels pick up their\nassigned cases at the Court; Court Angels are encouraged to visit wards\nthroughout Stark County; Court Angels may request different cases based upon\nlocation or if they feel other factors make the visit too difficult to\ncomplete.
