The Air Force JAG Corps provides\nfull-spectrum legal advice to military commanders. As an extern, you will gain\nhands-on experience in diverse areas of legal practice while learning more\nabout the Air Force and the JAG Corps. Our program is an excellent way to gain\nexposure to substantive legal work while serving alongside active duty Air\nForce Judge Advocates. Positions are available for full-time or part-time work\nfor 14-16 weeks during the 2019 fall semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Duties: <\/strong>As an extern, you will\nwork under attorney supervision in numerous practice areas of the JAG Corps\nincluding, but not limited to:&nbsp; Preparing\ncriminal and civil cases by conducting legal research, writing briefs and\nopinions, conducting investigations, and interviewing witnesses. Assisting\nattorneys who counsel and represent Airmen their family members, and retirees\nin personal legal matters in areas such as family law, estate planning,\nlandlord-tenant law, tax, bankruptcy, immigration and naturalization law, and\nmilitary administrative law. Supporting attorneys in other areas, such as\nfederal tort claims, government procurement law, employment law, international\nlaw, environmental law, and operational law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Requirements: <\/strong>U.S. Citizen (birth or\nnaturalization). Attending an ABA-approved law school. Able to obtain law\nschool permission for your externship (credit is authorized). Work part-time\n(8+ hours) or full-time (for up to 40 hours) a week, for 14-16 weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other Significant Facts: <\/strong>Externships are unpaid\npositions. Externs must pay for their travel to and from the job location and\nbe able to secure housing. No housing allowance will be provided. Candidates\nmust undergo a background investigation to determine suitability for employment\n(externs will be required to get electronically fingerprinted as soon as\npossible after selection). Selection for this position is contingent upon proof\nof U.S. citizenship.
