AkronLawJobs No. 10446<\/strong> Overview: <\/strong>Two-year Fellowship hosted by Advocates for Basic Legal\nEquality, Inc. (ABLE) and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) for 3L’s or\nrecent graduate candidates for fellowships for 2020-2022. You are encouraged to\ndevelop and bring forward proposals for work in an area of poverty law in one\nof the following areas (development of a full proposal will be in collaboration\nwith ABLE and LAWO advocates): Access to Meaningful and Appropriate Education;\nAgricultural Worker and Immigrant Rights; Healthcare and Public Benefits;\nHousing and Community Economic Development; Stability and Independence for\nSurvivors; Meaningful Access to Justice; Medical-Legal Partnership; Reentering\nCitizens Project. Proposals should focus on legal advocacy on behalf of\ndisenfranchised individuals, groups, or issues not adequately represented in\nour legal system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qualifications: <\/strong>3L or\nrecent graduates. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated interest in\npublic interest law, strong academic records, excellent organization and\ncommunication skills, and the demonstrated ability to handle a demanding\nworkload. ABLE and LAWO will work closely with successful applicants to develop\ntheir project and navigate the fellowship process.  If selected,\ncandidates should be prepared to move quickly to develop their project proposal\nfor submission to the outside fellowship sponsor on or before September 20,\n2019. Final selection of fellows is contingent on the sponsor’s selection of a\ncandidate’s proposal. Candidates for the 2020-2022 fellowship must be\neligible to take the Ohio Bar Exam in July of 2020. Applicants who are recently\nadmitted to practice law in Ohio, or who are recently licensed in another state\nand eligible for temporary admission before taking the Ohio Bar Exam, will also\nbe considered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salary: <\/strong>Starting salary is\n$52,000. ABLE and LAWO offer a comprehensive benefits package. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
