{"id":76523,"date":"2020-03-11T13:17:44","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T17:17:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/law\/?p=76523"},"modified":"2020-03-11T13:17:44","modified_gmt":"2020-03-11T17:17:44","slug":"important-information-about-school-of-law-class-cancelation-and-continuation-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/law\/2020\/03\/11\/important-information-about-school-of-law-class-cancelation-and-continuation-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Important information about School of Law class cancelation and continuation plans"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tuesday, March 10, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear School of Law community,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By now, you probably have seen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uakron.edu\/healthservices\/news\/\">President Miller\u2019s\nannouncement<\/a> that classes will be canceled for the remainder of this week\nand next (effective at 5:00 pm today), with classes resuming in primarily\nonline format after Spring Break.&nbsp; <strong>This email contains important\ninformation about plans at the School of Law.&nbsp; <\/strong>Please read it\ncarefully and let us know if you have questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Classes canceled.<\/strong>&nbsp; <strong>All<\/strong> classes\n(face-to-face and online, synchronous and asynchronous) are canceled for the\nremainder of this week and all of next week (Friday, March 20<sup>th<\/sup>).&nbsp;\nThe building and other UA facilities will remain open until further\nnotice.&nbsp; Students may continue to use the library and other\nfacilities.&nbsp; School of Law faculty and staff will continue to be available\nfor questions and issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Events and travel.<\/strong>&nbsp; All on-campus events are\ncanceled at least until April 20<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp; All travel by student\ncompetition teams or other student travel on behalf of the School of Law is\ncanceled through April 20<sup>th<\/sup>. &nbsp;We are evaluating off-campus\nSchool of Law-sponsored events and will have more information on this soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Graduation fair.<\/strong>&nbsp; The graduation fair scheduled\nfor next week will be rescheduled or moved to an online format.&nbsp; Please\nstay tuned for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fall mandatory advising.<\/strong>&nbsp; The live mandatory\nadvising sessions scheduled for next week are canceled.&nbsp; Fall advising\ninformation will be posted to Brightspace and Student Affairs staff will be\navailable for one-on-one advising.&nbsp; More information will be provided\nsoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Course delivery.&nbsp; <\/strong>We will be ready to continue\nour curriculum in distance learning format once the semester resumes on March\n30<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp; Each faculty member will work with the administration to\ncomplete the semester in the way that works best for their course.&nbsp;\nUndoubtedly there will be some hiccups along the way, but we are confident that\nevery course can be completed satisfactorily so that students can earn\nappropriate credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Change in academic calendar.&nbsp; <\/strong>The cancelation of\nclasses for the remainder of this week and next will pose some scheduling\nchallenges.&nbsp; <strong>To comply with ABA accreditation standards, it is likely\nthat we will have to extend the semester by one week in May.<\/strong>&nbsp; Classes\nwill be extended from April 26<sup>th<\/sup> through May 6<sup>th<\/sup> and\nfinal exams will begin on May 7<sup>th<\/sup> and go until May 15<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;\nWe recognize that this schedule change may create difficulties for some of you;\nwe will work with you to resolve or mitigate those problems.&nbsp; In the\nmeantime, please take account of this likely schedule change in your plans to\nthe extent you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Graduation.&nbsp; <\/strong>For those of you who are planning\nto graduate this May, don\u2019t worry.&nbsp; You will be able to complete your\nrequirements in time.&nbsp; As of now, we are still planning to hold the\ncommencement ceremony as scheduled on May 17<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp; Be aware that\nthis could change, however, depending on facts that are outside our\ncontrol.&nbsp; We will keep you all informed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Accreditation requirements.<\/strong>&nbsp; We are working with\nthe ABA to ensure that these measures will comply with accreditation\nrequirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The facts are changing rapidly,<strong> so please stay tuned<\/strong>\nfor additional information.&nbsp;
