We\u2019re\nemailing you about exciting career and law clerk opportunities with the U.S.\nDepartment of Justice\u2019s Environment & Natural Resources Division (ENRD) for\nyour graduates and students. <\/strong>ENRD is proud to be redoubling our efforts\nto attract lawyers and law students from around our diverse Nation to a career\nin public service. ENRD is an especially great fit for attorneys and law\nstudents interested in complex civil and criminal litigation in the Federal\nCourts.<\/em> Those with an interest in public service and in working on cases\ninvolving environmental, public health, natural resource, land management, and\nAmerican Indian and Tribal issues will also find a welcome home with ENRD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ENRD\nis currently recruiting entry-level attorneys through the Department\u2019s\nprestigious Attorney General\u2019s Honors Attorney Program for 2021 graduates and\nrecent graduates currently serving in qualifying clerkships or fellowships.<\/strong> The\nHonors Attorney Program has served as a gateway to Department and ENRD careers\nfor many decades. Applications are being accepted\nnow through September 8, 2020<\/strong>. <\/em>This\nis also the application period for Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 Law Clerk\nProgram internships<\/strong>, offering virtual and, we expect, in-office placements.\nAnd several litigating sections within ENRD are hiring lateral attorneys. We\nwant to emphasize that ENRD is committed to recruitment processes and a work\nculture that promotes and respects Equal Employment Opportunities.

\nEligibility\nfor the Honors Program <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility is\ngenerally limited to graduating law students and recent law school graduates\nwho entered judicial clerkships, graduate law programs, or qualifying legal\nfellowships within 9 months of law school graduation and who meet additional eligibility\nrequirements [see below].

Selection Criteria <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice takes pride in\nthe fact that we consider the \u201cwhole candidate\u201d when making selections for\nemployment. Selections are made based on many elements of a candidate\u2019s\nbackground including a demonstrated commitment to government service, academic\nachievement, leadership, law review or moot court experience, legal aid and\nclinical experience, past employment, and extracurricular activities that\nrelate to the work of Justice and the relevant component. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year the\nDepartment hires a significant number of entry-level attorneys through the\nHonors Program. Selectees represent diverse backgrounds and interests, and come\nfrom law schools throughout the country. The Honors Program is centrally\nmanaged by the Office of Attorney Recruitment and Management, but each\nparticipating component reviews the applications submitted and makes\nindependent hiring decisions.

How to Apply <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Candidates interested\nin starting their career as an entry-level attorney with Justice must apply\nthrough the Attorney General\u2019s Honors Program via an on-line application. For\nemployment in 2021, the application opens on July 31, 2020, and closes on\nSeptember 8, 2020<\/strong>. We highly recommend that applicants read the application tips and\nchecklist [see\nbelow] and assemble requested information before starting the online application [see below].
