As you know, the Law Faculty approved a temporary two option ranking system for Spring 2009:\u00a0<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Option \u201cA\u201d — \u00a0separate full-time and part-time rankings, essentially as has been done in the past<\/li>\n
  2. Option \u201cB\u201d — consolidated rankings based upon the class with which the student is expected to graduate.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    (Spring 2009 Class Rankings)\u00a0<\/p>\n

    We now need to finalize class rankings and create a system whereby students would be ranked only with those students expected to be in their same graduation year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

    The Law Faculty are considering the following proposal:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Eliminate separate rankings<\/li>\n
    2. Eliminate rankings after the fall semester<\/li>\n
    3. Publish consolidated rankings based upon the class in which the student is expected to graduate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \u00a0We would not rank first-year part-time<\/span> students because they form such a small part of the class with which they would eventually graduate. \u00a0We would provide the correlation between LGPA and rank of the various classes, which would allow those students to approximate their likely rankings once their entire graduation cohort is at the law school.<\/p>\n

      \u00a0We expect the rankings to look like this:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

      Full- & Part-Time Students, <\/strong>Ranked Together (those most likely to graduate together), <\/strong>Based on TOTAL Credits Completed<\/strong>* & Classification on ZipLine<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n

      		\n

      Total Credits Completed, <\/strong>End of Spring<\/span> Semester, <\/strong>(subject to slight variation to assure that all students are ranked with the appropriate cohort)<\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

      First Year Students<\/strong>**<\/td>\n\n

      up to 30 = Full-Time, 1st<\/sup> Year Students<\/p>\n

      \u00a0up to 45 <\/strong>= Part-Time, 2nd<\/sup> Year Students<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

      \u00a0<\/strong>Middle Year Students<\/strong><\/td>\n\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      31 to 60 = Full- Time, 2nd<\/sup> Year Students<\/p>\n

      46 to 68 = Part-Time 2nd<\/sup> & 3rd<\/sup> Year Students<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

      \u00a0<\/strong>Final Year Students<\/strong><\/td>\n\n

      \u00a0<\/p>\n

      (88 credits required to graduate)<\/p>\n

      61 = Full-Time, 3rd Year Students<\/p>\n

      \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 69 = Part-Time, 4th<\/sup> Year Students<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

      It is important to recognize that the \u201ccredits completed\u201d are approximate. They are appropriate for the vast majority of students, but when we implemented the interim approach last spring, we found it necessary to make adjustments for some students who were more likely to graduate with a class other than the one indicated by their actual credits completed.<\/p>\n
