Applications for funding for the <strong>Spring 2012<\/strong> Public Interest Law (PIL) Program will be accepted beginning <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Monday, January 9, 2012<\/span>. Students interested in applying for a <strong>Spring 2012<\/strong> Public Interest Law award should begin thinking now about securing a placement for their spring PIL work experience. The Public Interest Law Program supports and encourages those students who would like to gain experience in public interest areas. Recent local placements have included:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Cleveland Homeless Legal Assistance Program<br \/>\nCommunity Legal Aid Services of Akron<br \/>\nCity of Canton, Public Safety and Service Departments<br \/>\nCouncil of International Programs USA<br \/>\nMahoning County Prosecutor<br \/>\nNational Labor Relations Board<br \/>\nNinth District Court of Appeals<br \/>\nOhio Civil Rights Commission<br \/>\nU.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office<br \/>\nStark County Public Defender&#8217;s Office<br \/>\nSummit County Prosecutor<br \/>\nCASA Guardian Ad Litem\/Summit County Juvenile Court<br \/>\nUniversity of Akron Legal Clinic\/Appellate Review Office<br \/>\nU.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office<br \/>\nU.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0If you think you would like to obtain a public interest internship, but have no idea how to line up a placement, please feel free to call upon Professor Koosed (statewide agencies), Professor Carro (Akron), Career Planning Director, Barbara C. Weinzierl or Assistant Director Alisa Benedict O\u2019Brien (general).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The deadline to submit your application for <strong>SPRING 2012<\/strong> PIL funding is<strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> Monday, January 23 at Noon.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 You must secure a public interest placement <em>before<\/em> submitting your application.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The application form must be filled out by the student\/applicant.\u00a0 The organization that will employ you as a volunteer law clerk and will provide supervision will need to confirm that in a letter on their letterhead\/stationery.\u00a0 The employer will need to include your start date, end date, number of hours per week on average, supervisor&#8217;s name, and a short paragraph describing your anticipated duties.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">This letter also needs to be submitted by the application deadline of Monday, January 23, 2012 at Noon<\/span>. <strong>All materials must be submitted to the Career Planning Office by the deadline.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong><em>Stop by the Career Planning Office today for a copy of the application and guidelines.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Public Interest Law Program \u2013 Spring 2012 \u2013 Each semester (spring, summer and fall), the Law School awards a stipend to a number of students who have secured a public interest internship.
