{"id":5579,"date":"2016-02-01T13:35:20","date_gmt":"2016-02-01T13:35:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/liblog\/?p=5579"},"modified":"2016-02-01T13:35:20","modified_gmt":"2016-02-01T13:35:20","slug":"cchp-exhibit-for-rethinking-race-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/liblog\/2016\/02\/01\/cchp-exhibit-for-rethinking-race-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"CCHP Exhibit for Rethinking Race Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The exhibit \u201cBlack Psychologists and the American Dream\u201d showcasing materials from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uakron.edu\/chp\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cummings Center for the History of Psychology<\/a>, is now located on the first and second floors of Bierce library.\u00a0 The exhibit features a speech written by Martin Luther King, Jr. only seven months before he was killed, personal and professional materials of the first Black woman psychologist in America, a seminal book in the struggle for African American psychologists to be recognized within the profession, and film stills from the 1963 program, \u201cThe Negro and the American Promise\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>These original materials from archival collections at the Cummings Center put the African American experience in context with psychology.\u00a0 The exhibit reveals the struggles of Black psychologists within the profession of psychology, as well as the history of civil rights in American psychology.<\/p>\n<p>This exhibit complements the \u201cThe African American Dream: Historical Perspectives in Today\u2019s Society\u201d Rethinking Race event sponsored by the Cummings Center.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit will be open through the month of March.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5583\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5583\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/860\/2016\/02\/JBaldwin.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5583\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/860\/2016\/02\/JBaldwin-300x225.png\" alt=\"James Baldwin\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5583\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">James Baldwin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5587\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5587\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/860\/2016\/02\/KBClark.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5587\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/liblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/860\/2016\/02\/KBClark-300x225.png\" alt=\"Kenneth B.
