Internship
In line with MGI, proposed project will provide training opportunities for graduate students in Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and NASA Glenn Research Center to participate in interdisciplinary composite research that involves close interactions with AFRL and NASA researchers. UA’s close proximity with AFRL in Dayton and NASA GRC in Cleveland promotes intimate collaboration opportunities. Students will travel and spend time at the training facilities at AFRL and NASA GRC for 8-weeks every year to work closely with external collaborators (see Letters of Support from AFRL and NASA collaborators). Budget includes funds for student subsistence/travel. Students will be trained in interdisciplinary areas of material discovery, AM processes, structural performance assessment, and data analytics for national defense. Through partnership with reputable companies, this project therefore creates a world-class materials workforce that is trained for careers in federal and industrial laboratories, including high-tech manufacturing jobs.
