Starks, University of South Florida<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444\">Plenary Speaker: William Proctor Williams, University of Akron<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444\">Submissions for this theme-focused conference should explore the many aspects of violence in early modern culture. We welcome 300 word abstracts or proposals. Proposals for panels are also welcome. Submissions should include treatment of Shakespeare and\/or his contemporaries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Submissions may include, but are certainly not limited to the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #444444\">violent emotions;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>physical violence;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">violent characters;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">self-mutilation;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">staged or simulated violence;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">suicide;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">cannibalism;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">rape and sexual violence;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">violent language or poetic imagery;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">war and political violence;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">punishment;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">executions;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">abuse of servants;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">colonial violence in the Renaissance;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">violent textual editions (violent distortions of meaning);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">stage properties used for violence;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">the violence of nature (storms, bears);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">riots in the theater;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">violent reactions to Shakespeare (the Essex rebellion, and, of course, teaching!);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">violent endings to the theater (the burning of the Globe);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">disintegration of the text;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">the causes of violence;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>and, of course, where you can find it, non-violent Shakespeare<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If enough interest is shown, we will provide special undergraduate paper sessions.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444\">Submission Deadline: 15 September 2006.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444\">Please include the following information in your conference proposals or abstracts:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Name<\/li>\n<li>e-mail address<\/li>\n<li>college or university affiliation<\/li>\n<li>mailing address<\/li>\n<li>audio visual needs<\/li>\n<li>if you are part of a panel<\/li>\n<li>and times when it is impossible for you to present your work during the November 9th-11th timeframe.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444\">Also indicate if you are an undergraduate student.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444\">E-mail submissions are encouraged, although mailed submissions will be accepted as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444\">Conference Organizer: Joseph Sullivan, joe.sullivan@marietta.edu, 740-376-4639<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thomas Hall, Marietta College, Marietta, OH 45750<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>OSC Chairperson: Kara Northway, northwayk@xavier.edu<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Call for Papers: Ohio Shakespeare Conference\u00a02006 Topic: Violently Shakespeare Date: November 9 &#8211; 11, 2006 Location: Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio &nbsp; Plenary Speaker: Lisa S.
