{"id":40995,"date":"2018-05-02T10:05:13","date_gmt":"2018-05-02T14:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/researchnewsinfo\/?p=40995"},"modified":"2018-05-02T10:05:13","modified_gmt":"2018-05-02T14:05:13","slug":"ohio-federal-research-network-announcement-air-force-sbir-18-2-special-topics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/researchnewsinfo\/2018\/05\/02\/ohio-federal-research-network-announcement-air-force-sbir-18-2-special-topics\/","title":{"rendered":"Ohio Federal Research Network Announcement &#8211; Air Force SBIR (18.2) Special Topics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ohio Federal Research Network (OFRN) announces the Air Force SBIR (18.2) Special Topics<\/p>\n<p>The 18.2 round of SBIR includes a new Air Force pilot called &#8220;Special Topics&#8221;.\u00a0 Unlike traditional Phase I topics, which allow $150,000 budgets over 6 months, these\u00a0<em><strong>special topics are faster and have a smaller budget, $50,000 over 2 months.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 Unlike the traditional 20-page technical volume, these require only a 5-page proposal and a 15-slide pitch deck.<\/p>\n<p>This new program is exciting &#8211; the\u00a0<strong><em>faster speed could be more friendly to businesses that wouldn&#8217;t traditionally contract with the government, and the shorter proposal and pitch deck format may be more familiar and comfortable for small\/startup businesses.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The topics are VERY OFRN-relevant.\u00a0 In particular,\u00a0<em><strong>AF182-005 is an open call for dual-purpose technologies.<\/strong><\/em> DoD is increasingly interested in repurposing non-defense technologies as a way to reduce development costs and risks.<\/p>\n<p>We recommend interested small business review the topics below, and contact OFRN if you would like help finding partners, conceiving topics, or simply to find out more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>18.2 Air Force Special Topics<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AF182-001 &#8211; Commercial Solutions for Weather Forecasting<\/li>\n<li>AF182-002 &#8211; Innovative Position Navigation and Timing<\/li>\n<li>AF182-003 &#8211; Future Counter UAS Technology Options<\/li>\n<li>AF182-004 &#8211; Future Logistics and Supply Chain Options<\/li>\n<li>AF182-005 &#8211; Open Call for Innovative Defense-Related Dual-Purpose Technologies\/Solutions<\/li>\n<li>AF182-006 &#8211; Human-Machine Timing in Data Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination &#8211; a Technology Accelerator<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Defense SBIR 18.2 submissions are due June 20, 2018.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Additional information about DoD SBIR 18.2 can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/sbir.defensebusiness.org\/topics\/instructions\">Broad Agency Announcement Instructions<\/a> webpage and on the <a href=\"https:\/\/sbir.defensebusiness.org\/\">DoD SBIR\/STTR Portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>OFRN provides technical assistance to its members and stakeholders in finding partners and pursuing funding opportunities.
