{"id":41015,"date":"2018-05-04T16:20:54","date_gmt":"2018-05-04T20:20:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/researchnewsinfo\/?p=41015"},"modified":"2018-05-04T16:20:54","modified_gmt":"2018-05-04T20:20:54","slug":"department-of-defense-gulf-war-illness-research-program-funding-opportunities-for-fiscal-year-2018-fy18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/researchnewsinfo\/2018\/05\/04\/department-of-defense-gulf-war-illness-research-program-funding-opportunities-for-fiscal-year-2018-fy18\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of Defense Gulf War Illness Research Program Funding Opportunities for Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">FY18 GWIRP Program Announcements and General Application Instructions for the following award mechanisms are posted on Grants.gov.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">As directed by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, the Defense Health Agency (DHA) J9, Research and Development Directorate manages the Defense Health Program (DHP) Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&amp;E) appropriation.\u00a0 The managing agent for the anticipated Program Announcements\/Funding Opportunities is the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">The following mechanisms have been released:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: red;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cdmrp.army.mil\/funding\/gwirp\">http:\/\/cdmrp.army.mil\/funding\/gwirp<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Clinical Trial Award \u2013 Preproposal due July 13, 2018<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Independent investigators at all academic levels<\/li>\n<li>Submission of a pre-application is required: <em>application submission is by invitation only<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Supports rapid implementation of clinical trials with the potential to have a significant impact on GWI.<\/li>\n<li>Proposed projects may range from small proof-of-concept trials through large-scale, definitive trials.<\/li>\n<li><b>Early phase or pilot clinical trials (Phase 0, I, or I\/II) do not require preliminary data. Larger, more definitive clinical trials, including expansion of promising pilot trials, must include preliminary data to include safety in a GWI Veteran population.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Biorepository Contribution Option:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supports additional costs associated with submission of samples and data to the GWIRP supported Biorepository Resource Network.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must submit a Biorepository Contribution Statement providing a detailed accounting of proposed costs and a commitment to work with the GWIRP-supported Biorepository Resource Network.<\/li>\n<li>Application to this option is not a requirement for Clinical Trial Award submission.<\/li>\n<li>Maximum funding of <strong>$825,000<\/strong> for direct costs (plus indirect costs).<\/li>\n<li>Maximum funding of $841,000 for direct costs with the Biorepository Contribution Option (plus indirect costs).<\/li>\n<li>Maximum period of performance is <strong>4\u00a0<\/strong>years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Qualitative Research Award \u2013 Preproposal due July 13, 2018<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Independent investigators at all academic levels<\/li>\n<li><b>Submission of a pre-application is required; <em>application submission is by invitation only<\/em><strong>.<\/strong><\/b><\/li>\n<li>Supports qualitative research studies that seek to understand the experiences, perceptions, barriers, and beliefs of Veterans suffering from GWI and those responsible for their care.<\/li>\n<li>Research outcomes should ultimately be translated into educational materials and tools to better inform Veterans and their caregivers of healthcare providers about GWI and its care.<\/li>\n<li>Clinical trials are not allowed.<\/li>\n<li>Maximum funding is <strong>$400,000<\/strong> for direct costs (plus indirect costs)<\/li>\n<li>Maximum period of performance is <strong>3\u00a0<\/strong>years<b><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Investigator-Initiated Focused Research Award \u2013 Preproposal due July 13, 2018<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Independent investigators at all academic levels<\/li>\n<li>Submission of pre-application is required; <em>application submission is by invitation only.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Supports research from idea generation through preclinical validation under two tiers:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Discovery Tier<\/strong>: Supports basic research and proof-of-concept research; preliminary data are not required.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Applied Research Tier<\/strong>: Supports advanced development of more mature therapeutic or diagnostic research.
