{"id":41259,"date":"2018-08-22T14:43:20","date_gmt":"2018-08-22T18:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/researchnewsinfo\/?p=41259"},"modified":"2018-08-22T14:43:20","modified_gmt":"2018-08-22T18:43:20","slug":"dod-phtbi-jpc8-funding-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/researchnewsinfo\/2018\/08\/22\/dod-phtbi-jpc8-funding-opportunities\/","title":{"rendered":"DoD PHTBI JPC8 Funding Opportunities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Defense Health Program<br \/>\nDepartment of Defense Psychological Health\/Traumatic Brain Injury Research Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Funding Opportunities for Fiscal Year 2018\/2019 (FY18\/19)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The FY18 Defense Appropriation provides $125 million (M) to the Department of Defense Psychological Health\/Traumatic Brain Injury Research Program (PH\/TBIRP)<\/strong> to support critical traumatic brain injury (TBI)- and psychological health (PH)-related research and development efforts to benefit Service members, Veterans, and other beneficiaries of the military health system.\u00a0 As directed by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, the Defense Health Agency (DHA) J9, Research and Development Directorate, manages the Defense Health Program\u2019s Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation appropriation.\u00a0 The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) provides execution management support for DHA research program areas, including the Joint Program Committee-8\/Clinical and Rehabilitative Medicine Research Program (JPC-8\/CRMRP).\u00a0 The managing agent for this Program Announcement is the CDMRP with strategic oversight from the JPC-8\/CRMRP.<\/p>\n<p>The FY18\/19 PH\/TBIRP will solicit research applications for the following CTRR Focus Areas:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mechanisms of Recovery<\/strong> following isolated or cumulative TBI(s) in Service member-relevant injuries:\u00a0 Clinical research in human subjects that measures physiologic responses to cognitive rehabilitation with the intent to better understand how rehabilitation remediates cognitive or sensorimotor deficits, and ultimately to optimize rehabilitation prescription.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ecological Assessment:\u00a0 <\/strong>Investigation of outcome measures focused on military-specific tasks that inform return-to-duty\/participation decisions following rehabilitation in patients with TBI.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cognitive Rehabilitation:\u00a0 <\/strong>Evaluation of rehabilitation intervention effectiveness in remediating cognitive impairments and functional limitations after TBI.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grants.gov\/web\/grants\/search-grants.html\">https:\/\/www.grants.gov\/web\/grants\/search-grants.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>CTRR \u2013 Clinical Research Award (CTRR-CRA) \u2013 Preproposal due September 24, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Independent investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supports applied and translational research to advance the development of knowledge and materiel products for rehabilitation and restoration of function following TBI.<\/li>\n<li>Supported research can include preclinical studies using human subjects or samples and observational or mechanistic clinical research studies.<\/li>\n<li>Clinical trials are not allowed.<\/li>\n<li>Preclinical research using animals is not allowed.<\/li>\n<li>Must address one or more FY18\/19 PH\/TBIRP CTRR Focus Areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preproposal is required; application submission is by invitation only.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maximum funding of <strong>$2.0M<\/strong> for total costs (includes direct and indirect costs).<\/li>\n<li>Maximum period of performance is <strong>3\u00a0<\/strong>years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CTRR \u2013 Clinical Trial Development Award (CTRR-CTDA) \u2013 Preproposal due September 24, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Independent investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supports design and development of the necessary research resources that will serve as a foundation for investigator-initiated clinical trials as described above under CTRR \u2013 Clinical Trial Award (CTRR-CTA)<\/li>\n<li>Final supporting studies required for approval of Investigational New Drug Applications\/Investigational Device Exemptions (IND\/IDE-enabling) are allowed.\u00a0 Other preclinical studies are not allowed.<\/li>\n<li>Clinical trials are not allowed within the period of performance of the CTRR-CTDA.<\/li>\n<li>Must address one or more FY18\/19 PH\/TBIRP CTRR Focus Areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preproposal is required; application submission is by invitation only.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maximum funding of <strong>$200,000<\/strong> for total costs (includes direct and indirect costs).<\/li>\n<li>Maximum period of performance is <strong>12 months<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A pre-application is required and must be submitted through the electronic Biomedical Research Application Portal (eBRAP) at <a href=\"https:\/\/na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2FeBRAP.org&amp;data=02%7C01%7C%7C7d64d7fa074d4b15fec908d6085ace0b%7Ce8575dedd7f94ecea4aa0b32991aeedd%7C1%7C0%7C636705583416935668&amp;sdata=yL%2BZXEOjlmeUjYkvvL5yJM60daHBEh6sjiI1cWlFp1E%3D&amp;reserved=0\">https:\/\/eBRAP.org<\/a> prior to the pre-application deadline.
