The Common Rule<\/strong> was initially promulgated in 1991, and amended 2005. We refer to this version of the Common Rule as the \u201cpre-2018 Requirements.\u201d The Common Rule was substantially revised in 2017, and has been amended twice to delay the date that regulated entities must comply with the revised version of the rule. We refer to this version as the \u201crevised Common Rule,\u201d the \u201c2018 Requirements,\u201d or the \u201c2018 Rule.\u201d<\/p>\n

OHRP’s Division of Policy and Assurances (DPA) has compiled documents relevant to the revised Common Rule, including federal register notices, articles, and background information.\u00a0 Access those documents here: DPA Revised Common Rule Page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

OHRP has developed educational materials to assist the regulated community in understanding, implementing, and complying with the revised Common Rule.<\/p>\n

Starting January 21, 2019<\/strong>, the research community will need to comply with the full set of Common Rule changes. Don\u2019t worry, though\u2014OHRP has you covered. In preparation for the transition to the revised Common Rule, we have created Q&As and videos to help explain some of the changes and new provisions. The Q&As answer common questions about the Common Rule revisions, and the videos provide an overview of the major changes.<\/p>\n
