As directed by\nthe Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, the\nDefense Health Agency J9, Research and Development Directorate, manages the\nDefense Health Program (DHP) Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation\n(RDT&amp;E) appropriation. The managing agent for the anticipated Program\nAnnouncements\/Funding Opportunities is the Congressionally Directed Medical\nResearch Programs (CDMRP) at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel\nCommand (USAMRMC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FY19 SCIRP Program\nAnnouncements and General Application Instructions for the following award\nmechanisms are posted on the Grants.gov website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For FY19, SCIRP encourages applications\nthat address the critical needs of SCI research and patient care in one or more\nof the following FY19 Focus Areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Neuroprotection<\/li><li>Biomarkers<\/li><li>Bladder dysfunction,&nbsp; bowel dysfunction and\n     neuropathic pain<\/li><li>Psychosocial issues relevant to\n     SCI in&nbsp; individuals with SCI or their caregivers<\/li><li>Rehabilitation and regeneration<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Clinical\nTrial Award \u2013 Preproposal due May 29, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Independent\ninvestigators at all academic levels (or equivalent)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fund Phase 0, I, or II clinical trials\nwith the potential to have a major impact on treatment or management of spinal\ncord injury (SCI) and its consequences.<\/li><li>Applications must include at least two SCI consumer advocates\nas members of the research team.<\/li><li><strong><em>Preliminary data relevant to the proposed trial required\nfor all clinical trial applications.<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><em>Pre-application required; application submission is by\ninvitation only.<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>The\nmaximum allowable funding for the entire period of performance is of <strong>$3,\n000,000<\/strong> for direct costs.<\/li><li>Indirect\ncosts may be proposed in accordance with the institutions\u2019 negotiated rate\nagreement.<\/li><li>The maximum period of performance is <strong>4&nbsp;<\/strong>years<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Investigator-Initiated\nResearch Award \u2013 Preproposal due May 29, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Independent\ninvestigators at all academic levels (or equivalent)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fund SCI-related research that has the\npotential to make an important contribution to SCI research and\/or patient\ncare, and\/or quality of life.<\/li><li><strong><em>Preliminary data required.<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>Clinical trials not allowed.<\/li><li>Pre-application required; application\nsubmission by invitation only.<\/li><li>The maximum allowable funding for the\nentire period of performance is <strong>$500,000<\/strong> for direct costs.<\/li><li>Indirect costs may be proposed in\naccordance with the institution\u2019s negotiated rate agreement.<\/li><li>The maximum period of performance is <strong>3<\/strong>\nyears.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Translational\nResearch Award \u2013 Preproposal due May 29, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Independent investigators at all academic\nlevels (or equivalent)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fund studies that accelerate the\nmovement of promising ideas in SCI research into clinical applications.<\/li><li>Applications\nmust include at least one SCI consumer advocate as a member of the research\nteam.<\/li><li><strong><em>Preliminary\ndata required<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>The SCIRP TRA may\ninclude a pilot clinical trial where limited clinical testing of a novel\nintervention or device is necessary to inform the next step in the continuum of\ntranslational research. <\/li><li>Pre-application\nrequired; application submission by invitation only.<\/li><li>The maximum allowable\nfunding for the entire period of performance is <strong>$1,250,000 <\/strong>for direct\ncosts.<\/li><li>Indirect costs may be\nproposed in accordance with the institution\u2019s negotiated rate agreement. <\/li><li>The\nmaximum period of performance is <strong>3<\/strong>&nbsp;years<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A pre-application is required and must\nbe submitted through the electronic Biomedical Research Application Portal\n(eBRAP) at <a href=\"https:\/\/nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2FeBRAP.org&amp;data=02%7C01%7CRschSrvsGA8%40uakron.edu%7C6ae4dd289fcf4ed7228c08d6c3472038%7Ce8575dedd7f94ecea4aa0b32991aeedd%7C0%7C0%7C636911107580424496&amp;sdata=SeyphQlA8E1Rohi17zZ%2BexNUK9c8ZzcsxkcFus4%2FsZo%3D&amp;reserved=0\">https:\/\/eBRAP.org<\/a> prior to the pre-application deadline.\nAll applications must conform to the final Program Announcements and General\nApplication Instructions available for electronic downloading from the\nGrants.gov website.&nbsp;
