Semester-end\ngreetings. I wanted to let you know that the National Endowment for the\nHumanities will again be receiving applications for the NEH Summer Stipends\nprogram. The deadline for this year\u2019s competition is September 25, 2019, for\ngrants for summer 2020. The guidelines will not be posted until early June, but\nyou can start now publicizing this opportunity to your faculty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now\nis also the time to also think about nominations from your faculty. As you may\nknow, this program requires all tenured or tenure-track applicants to be\nnominated by an official on their campus; each institution is allowed to\nnominate two people. (Non-tenure-track faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, retired\nfaculty, community college faculty, and independent scholars are exempt from\nnomination). We ask that each institution designate one person\u2014usually an\nacademic vice-president or dean\u2014to coordinate the nomination process for its\nfaculty. Please make sure that there is only one nominating official for your\ninstitution. We strongly suggest that prospective applicants, the nominating\nofficial, and others involved in choosing your institution\u2019s two nominees\nfamiliarize themselves with the guidelines and application instructions located\non the NEH website. Until the new guidelines are posted you can refer\ncolleagues to last year\u2019s instructions, posted at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nonly substantial difference for this year is clarifying that non-tenure-track\nfaculty are now exempt from nomination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
