To participate in research, review the vario<\/span>us<\/span>\u00a0types of projects available in each of the programs (Biology, Chemistry and Geoscience). You can also take a look at the professor\u2019s webpage to get more information on their research program. After identifying the research that interests you, write a description of interest<\/strong> (up to 500 words) – why is this project of interest to you and why you would like to work with that research group. Then go to the application form HERE<\/strong><\/span>.<\/a> The application requires you to input some b<\/span>asic information about yourself (e.g., demographic information, GPA, awards\/scholarships, work experience, etc.) and your description of your interest, and upload a <\/span>one page resume<\/strong>. Some faculty and research projects are very popular, so it is worth hosting up to 5 projects and ranking them according to preference \u2013 only one description needs to be uploaded.<\/span><\/p>\n Once accepted into the program, students are encouraged to sign up for independent research credits, which range from 1 \u2013 4 total credit hours. The amount of credits requested should coincide with the amount of time you aim to commit to research. Typically for every research credit, students are expected to spend at least 3 hours work on their project in the lab. Time commitments for research are negotiated with the rese<\/span>arch advisor and graduate student, are quite flexible in most situations.<\/span><\/p>\n The research budget in Biology is made possible by a gracious yearly gift from Norbert Thompson<\/a> and a gift from Carolyn Olive in memory of her late husband John Olive, a previous professor in the Department of Biology.\u00a0 The research budget in Chemistry and Geoscience is made possible by a contribution from\u00a0 the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences and the Williams minimum of one semester of commitment to the research project is expected to receive this budget.<\/span><\/p>\n The deadline for applications is October 20, 2022<\/strong><\/span>. Decisions will be made by November 1 <\/strong>for lab placement and y<\/span>ou should expect to hear where you have been accepted into the tiered mentoring program shortly after.
