Kresh<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>I am happy to provide our first progress report since I took over on May 25<sup>th<\/sup> as Interim Executive Director following Professor Se\u00e1n O\u2019Connor&#8217;s return to full-time research and teaching. With this <strong>Summer 2023 Progress Report<\/strong>, I am pleased to provide you with updates on what we and our friends and affiliates have been working on from <strong>March through May 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>May was also personally exciting for my family with the birth of our first child, Aviva Lea Kresh.<\/p>\n<p>In the past few months, C-IP<sup>2<\/sup> hosted a virtual conference on <em>Culture &amp; IP: Analogs to Intellectual Property in Different Cultures<\/em>. We also hosted a virtual <span class=\"ui-provider cbv cbw c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t cbx cby w x y z ab ac ae af ag ah ai aj ak\" dir=\"ltr\">High Tech Roundtable on IP Licensing &amp; Policy<\/span>, along with a virtual follow-on to our 2022 BioPharma Roundtable.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, I am delighted to announce that Judge <strong>Susan G. Braden<\/strong>, who has served as our Jurist in Residence, joined our Advisory Board.<\/p>\n<p>Please keep an eye on the website and our email communications for upcoming events, including our <strong>2023 Annual Fall Conference<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, to all who are celebrating in and outside of the United States, we wish you a safe and happy Independence Day!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>C-IP<sup>2<\/sup> Hosted &amp; Co-Hosted Events<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Follow-Up Meeting for December 2022 BioPharma Roundtable<\/strong><br \/>\nOn March 22, C-IP<sup>2<\/sup> held a virtual meeting, led by Senior Fellow for Life Sciences &amp; Scholar\u00a0Professor\u00a0<strong>Emily Michiko Morris<\/strong>, as a follow-up to our December 2022 BioPharma Roundtable to discuss potential areas of academic research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Co-Sponsored Conference<\/strong><br \/>\nC-IP<sup>2<\/sup> co-sponsored the <a href=\"https:\/\/raceipconference.org\/2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Race + IP &#8217;23 Conference<\/a>, which was hosted April 13-15 in person and online \u00ad\u00adby the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"ui-provider cbv cbw c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t cbx cby w x y z ab ac ae af ag ah ai aj ak\" dir=\"ltr\">High Tech Roundtable on IP Licensing &amp; Policy<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nOn April 18, C-IP<sup>2<\/sup> held a small virtual roundtable, led by Senior Fellow for Innovation Policy &amp; Senior Scholar Dean<strong> Kristen Osenga<\/strong>, to identify major areas of interest in high tech licensing and IP and to pinpoint topics of discussion and potential areas for academic research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virtual Conference<\/strong><br \/>\nOn April 27-28, C-IP<sup>2<\/sup> hosted a <a href=\"https:\/\/cip2.gmu.edu\/conference-on-culture-intellectual-property\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">virtual conference<\/a> on <em>Culture &amp; IP: Analogs to Intellectual Property in Different Cultures<\/em>. Cultures influence the development of Intellectual Property systems, and Intellectual Property systems influence how cultures develop. This conference focused on that interplay through the lens of analogs to Intellectual Property in various cultures, bringing together scholars from around the globe to discuss how Intellectual Property systems and their analogs co-exist, influence, and inform each other. Copyright Implications in Public Performances,&#8221; an online event in which Student Advocates from the clinic held a discussion on Copyright Law and Public Performance with producers from George Mason University&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenmachine.gmu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Machine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>News and Speaking Engagements<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Professor O&#8217;Connor Returns to Faculty: <\/strong>After successfully steering Scalia Law\u2019s Center for Intellectual Property x Innovation Policy (C-IP<sup>2<\/sup>) through a rebranding and expansion that resulted in a Top 20 ranking for the Law School\u2019s IP Program, <strong>Professor Se\u00e1n O\u2019Connor<\/strong> is returning to full time research and teaching.
