This \u201cexpanse of girls, expanding still\u201d chase each other through history, disappearing in an Illinois cornfield only to re-emerge on the dissection table of a Scottish artist-anatomist. But these poems are not just interested in historical narrative: they peer, too, at the past\u2019s marginalia, at its \u201cblank pages\u201d as well as its \u201cscrawls and dashes.\u201d Always, they return to \u201cthe dark, indelicate question\u201d of power and sexuality, of who can rule the \u201ccity where no one is from.\u201d These girls search for the connection between \u201calive and will stay that way,\u201d between each dying star and the emptiness that can collapse everything.<\/p>\n<h3>About the author<\/h3>\n<div class=\"author\">\n<p>Brittany Cavallaro\u00a0is the author of\u00a0<em>Girl-King,\u00a0<\/em>which was an Editor\u2019s\u00a0Choice for the Akron Poetry Prize and was published by University of Akron Press in 2015, as well as the\u00a0<em>New York Times\u00a0<\/em>bestselling author of the Charlotte Holmes series for young adults. Her poems have appeared in\u00a0<em>AGNI, The Southern Review,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Tin House,\u00a0<\/em>among other journals. She is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Vermont Studio Center, and scholarships from the Bread Loaf Writers Conference.
