Over those ten decades, the elastomeric profession has undergone innovations, improvements, retooling, and rethinking.\u00a0<i>The Rubber Mirror: Reflections of the Rubber Division\u2019s First 100 Years<\/i>\u00a0traces the history of the division and details how it became the forum for the many people who ultimately impacted the advances in the rubber industry.<\/p>\n<p>Started by twenty-eight rubber chemists in the early 1900s, the Rubber Division, ACS has grown substantially. Its story reflects how people of simple backgrounds, working together, have propelled advances in natural and synthetic rubber materials and applications, polymer engineering and manufacturing, thermoplastics research, and chemistry.\u00a0<i>The Rubber Mirror<\/i>\u00a0reveals the heart and spirit of individuals. Their chronicles are primary documents in the history of the Rubber Division, ACS.<\/p>\n<p>The history of the organization is multifaceted and covers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>inventors and patents;<\/li>\n<li>a library including informational assets of Firestone, General, B. F. Goodrich, Goodyear, and U.S. Rubber;<\/li>\n<li>agreements and disputes;<\/li>\n<li>pioneering correspondence courses in rubber technology; and<\/li>\n<li>scholarships and awards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This well-researched book includes several appendices that detail officers of the Rubber Division from 1909\u20132009, inductees of the International Rubber Hall of Fame, the Charles Goodyear Medal winners, and many other special award recipients.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hr\"><\/div>\n<h3>About the author<\/h3>\n<div class=\"author\">\n<h4>Henry J. Inman<\/h4>\n<p>Henry J. Inman is a former newspaper writer and corporate public relations executive with the Goodyear Tire &amp; Rubber Company. Inman has written for\u00a0<i>Akron Life &amp; Leisure magazine, Modern Tire Dealer, Rubber &amp; Plastics News,<\/i>\u00a0is a contributing editor to\u00a0<i>Tire Review<\/i>\u00a0magazine and has edited four novels. He is president of Cuyahoga Falls-based Goldfinch Communications, Inc.
