A Mollusk Without a Shell: Essays on Self-Care<\/em> for Writers<\/em><\/span><\/span> offers multiple perspectives and vital insights on caring for the artist behind the creative work. Julie Brooks Barbour and Mary Biddinger have compiled a reader-friendly collection of brief essays that address challenges faced by many contemporary writers. Julie Brooks Barbour\u2019s most recent poetry collection is <\/span>Haunted City<\/span><\/i> (Kelsay Books, 2017). Her work has appeared in <\/span>South Dakota Review, Glass: A Journal of Poetry, Whale Road Review, Escape Into Life, Moon City Review, Gone Lawn, Menacing Hedge,<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Allium, A Journal of Poetry and Prose<\/span><\/i>. She teaches writing at Lake Superior State University where she edits the journal Border Crossing<\/em>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mary Biddinger\u2019s most recent poetry collection is <\/span><\/span>Department of Elegy<\/span><\/span><\/em> (Black Lawrence Press, 2022). <\/span>Her poems have appeared in a variety of journals, including <\/span><\/span>Diode<\/em>, A Dozen Nothing<\/em>,<\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span>Pithead Chapel<\/span><\/span><\/em>, and have been featured on <\/span><\/span>Poetry Daily<\/span><\/span><\/em> and <\/span><\/span>The Slowdown<\/span><\/span><\/em>.<\/span> Biddinger\u2019s flash fiction has been published in <\/span><\/span>Always Crashing<\/em>, DIAGRAM<\/em>, Gone Lawn<\/em><\/span><\/span>, and <\/span><\/span>Southern Indiana Review<\/em>,<\/span><\/span> among others. She teaches creative writing at the University of Akron and in the NEOMFA <\/span>program, and<\/span> serves as poetry editor for the University of Akron Press.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
