Wayne County Mini Maker Faire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9875\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/03\/maker-faire-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n<p>Plans are underway for the next <a href=\"http:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/\">Wayne County Mini Maker Faire<\/a> on <strong>Saturday, May 19th<\/strong>.\u00a0 Just two weeks away!\u00a0 Be sure to mark your calendar to attend.\u00a0 The Daily Record said it best: \u201cDubbed the \u2018Greatest Show and Tell on Earth\u2019, over <strong>1,300 people<\/strong> flocked to the inaugural faire at the University of Akron Wayne College last year.<\/p>\n<p>The Wayne County Mini Maker Faire is a <strong>family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness<\/strong>, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. \u00a0It\u2019s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.\u00a0 Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to <strong>entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10031\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/05\/car-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 Our 2018 Makers Are Finalized!\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are thrilled that many of them from the 2017 faire are coming back this year and there are many new makers as well.\u00a0 This year\u2019s faire will host 75+ makers from all corners of the community.\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/makers-exhibits\/\">Click here<\/a> to see all of the interesting and friendly folks who are participating this year.<\/strong>\u00a0 There truly is something for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J7CNPdVEvgI\">Check-out this interesting video of the 8th Annual World Maker Faire in New York<\/a>,<\/strong> a two-day event.\u00a0 It is family fun festival to MAKE, create, learn, invent, craft, recycle, build, think, play and be inspired by celebrating arts, crafts, engineering, food, music, science and technology.\u00a0 Features from World Maker Faire New York 2017 included projects with social impact and making for good, health care and food, alongside the latest developments from core pillars of the Maker Movement such as microelectronics, 3D printing, drones, robotics and more. Favorite attractions such as the Coke Zero &amp; Mentos Show from Eepybird, and art installations were also on display.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J7CNPdVEvgI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10035\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/05\/dragon-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>We are <strong>proud to showcase Ohio makers<\/strong> who participated in the Wayne County Mini Maker Faire last year.\u00a0 One such maker is Chris Shepherd.\u00a0 Chris offered farming thermoelectric demonstrations for kids. \u00a0The farming \u201cconnection\u201d is the silage (feed).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10039\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/05\/fuel-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Chris offered hands on activities for kids with thermoelectrics, using heat to make electricity.\u00a0 Kids took-home cells after learning about them.\u00a0 Chris also used parabolic and\/or Fresno lens to heat the thermoelectric. \u00a0For another heating idea, he used a lantern for the heat source (vegetable or kerosene). \u00a0Super capacitors were also used to store the power (as well as solar panels).\u00a0 Chris has a corn sheller that runs from a DC motor &amp; battery \/ solar panel.\u00a0 And finally, Chris demonstrated how silage makes ethanol.
