Wayne County Mini Maker Faire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n<p>Thanks again to everyone who attended, participated in, and volunteered for the <a href=\"http:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/\">Wayne County Mini Maker Faire<\/a> a few weeks ago!\u00a0 The Daily Record said it best: \u201cDubbed the \u2018Greatest Show and Tell on Earth\u2019; over <strong>1,300 people<\/strong> flocked to the second annual faire at the University of Akron Wayne College. \u00a0It was a fresh experience with <strong>favorite makers from last year<\/strong> coming back along with <strong>new makers<\/strong> and new things to see and do.<\/p>\n<p>The Wayne County Mini Maker Faire is a <strong>family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness<\/strong>, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. \u00a0It\u2019s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.\u00a0 Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to <strong>entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10155\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/06\/hats-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/makezine.com\/2018\/05\/18\/live-updates-maker-faire-bay-area-2018\">Check-out these excellent highlights from Maker Faire Bay Area 2018 in California!<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0 This is a huge, three-day event with well over 700 makers and thousands of people.\u00a0 There&#8217;s always plenty to see at Maker Faire Bay Area. \u00a0Make: editors were scoping out the Faire all weekend in order to bring you all the must-see exhibits and makers. If you missed the Faire this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/makerfaire.com\/live\/\">check out their live (at the time) blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/makezine.com\/2018\/05\/18\/live-updates-maker-faire-bay-area-2018\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10159\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/06\/mfba-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are <strong>proud to showcase Ohio makers<\/strong> who participated in the Wayne County Mini Maker Faire this year.\u00a0 One such maker is Stephen Andrews from <strong>Heart of the Tree.<\/strong>\u00a0 Steve utilizes traditional woodworking equipment in partnership with a CNC router, laser engraver, and traditional woodworking tools to create fascinating toys and personal products. He loves to mix media and utilize found or recycled materials. New products being born daily.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10163\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/06\/heartofthetree-300x249.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"249\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Heirloom quality toys are reinvented back with a new twist. Also creating products for all ages and custom creations just for you and your home.\u00a0 At this year\u2019s faire, kids had a blast with Steve\u2019s fascinating and beautifully crafted toys, including a <strong>\u201ctree\u201d on which marbles dropped melodically<\/strong> onto many wooden petals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out our makers who participated is <strong>Dale Atkinson.<\/strong>\u00a0 He and his father does woodcarving of different birds and animals as well as other things. \u00a0<strong>Dale does woodworking as well as woodturning.<\/strong> \u00a0He has turned bowl and made beds for camping, medieval crossbows, burned wooden American flags, and more.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10167\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/06\/dale-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What you see in the picture is just a sampling of what they have made or done. \u00a0His father also does <strong>long-arm quilting<\/strong> with a computerized quilting machine. Dale made different things over the years from other <strong>furniture to wooden arrows,<\/strong> which he is working on right now as well.
