Wayne County Mini Maker Faire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Want to bring your hobby, invention, school\nproject, or product to the Wayne County Mini Maker faire?&nbsp; We\u2019d love to\nhave you!&nbsp; Act fast; the application deadline is April 1st!&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/call-for-makers\/\">You can signup here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wayne County Mini Maker Faire is a <strong>family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and\nresourcefulness<\/strong> and a celebration of the Maker Movement. &nbsp;It\u2019s\na place where people show what they are making, and share what they are\nlearning.&nbsp; Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders\nto scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The\naim of Maker Faire is to <strong>entertain, inform,\nconnect and grow this community.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Daily Record said it best: \u201cDubbed the \u2018Greatest Show and\nTell on Earth\u2019; over <strong>1,300 people<\/strong> flocked to the second annual faire at the University\nof Akron Wayne College last May. &nbsp;It was a fresh experience with <strong>favorite makers from last year<\/strong> coming back\nalong with <strong>new makers<\/strong> and new things\nto see and do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/03\/DSC06285-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11295\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maker Faires are incredible at any size.<\/strong>&nbsp; In its simplest form, Maker Faire creates opportunities for\nconversations with Makers. &nbsp;Tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators,\ntinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and\nentrepreneurs all come together to show their projects and to talk about what\nthey have learned. It is a community based learning event that inspires everyone\nto become a maker, <strong>and connect with people and\nprojects in their local community.<\/strong>&nbsp; Yet, Maker Faire is a\n\u201cfair\u201d \u2014 fun, engaging, and exciting.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/03\/rsz_makerfaire-1160x595-1024x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11299\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Maker\nFaires are a celebration of the <strong>Maker Movement.<\/strong>&nbsp;\nIt is a cultural trend that places value on an individual&#8217;s ability to be a\ncreator of things as well as a consumer of things.&nbsp; Individuals who create\nthings are called &#8220;makers.&#8221; <strong>Makers\ncome from all walks of life, with diverse skill sets and interests.<\/strong>\nThe thing they have in common is creativity, an interest in design and access\nto tools and raw materials that make production possible.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ngrowth of the maker movement is often attributed to the rise of <strong>makerspaces<\/strong> &#8212; community centers where makers can\ngo to access tools that would otherwise be inaccessible or unaffordable. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/\">Wayne College\n3D Lab<\/a><\/strong> and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.schantzmakerspace.com\/\">Schantz Makerspace<\/a><\/strong> are\nexamples of local makerspaces.&nbsp; Peer education and opportunities for\ncollaboration are important maker tools, as are access to digital fabrication\ntools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CAD software and computer numerical\ncontrol (CNC) milling machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are plenty of other makerspaces in\nour area, too.&nbsp; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/makerspaces.make.co\/\">Check-out this interactive\nmap<\/a>.<\/strong>&nbsp; There are almost <strong>600<\/strong> community makerspaces in the U.S. alone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/03\/makerspace-map-1024x361.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11303\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/makerspaces.make.co\/\"><\/a>&nbsp;<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are <strong>proud to\nshowcase Ohio makers<\/strong> who participated in the\nWayne County Mini Maker Faire this year.&nbsp;\nOne of these groups is the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/hackcanton.com\/\">Canton Hacker and Maker Place<\/a>.<\/strong>&nbsp;\nThey provide a community-operated work-space where people with common interests\n(often in computers, machining, technology, science, digital art or electronic\nart) can meet, socialize, build, and collaborate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/03\/egg-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11307\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At last year\u2019s faire, CHAMP brought egg\ncoloring robots controlled by an Arduino microcontroller. &nbsp;Attendees\npicked out designs and assisted the robot in drawing the design.&nbsp; And of\ncourse they took their eggs home where they (hopefully) did not spoil, being\ntoo pretty to eat!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another group that participated in the Wayne County Mini\nMaker Faire is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WarmUpOrrville\/\">Warm Up America! Orrville<\/a>.<\/strong>&nbsp; It was founded circa 2005 by an Orrville Public\nLibrary employee and is made up of volunteers from the Wayne County area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/03\/wuao-1024x758.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11311\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At their booth, attendees were shown how to knit and crochet\nwith member of the group. &nbsp;They had yarn and tools available for those who\nwant to sit down with the group and <strong>learn basic\nknitting or crocheting.<\/strong>&nbsp; Their volunteers were ready and able\nto demonstrate and teach basic techniques to get everyone started with this\nenjoyable craft.&nbsp; Attendees got to keep any knit\/crochet samples they made\nwhile at Warm Up Amerca! Orrville\u2019s &nbsp;booth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rounding out our makers who participated is <strong>Chris Ryan.<\/strong>&nbsp; He has been flying <strong>remote controlled (RC) aircraft<\/strong> for almost three years now. &nbsp;Chris has a passion\nfor teaching others how to fly. &nbsp;He is past Vice President of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.modelaircraft.org\/club\/wayne-county-rc-club\">Wayne County RC\nClub<\/a> and the founder of the Ohio Fixed Wing Racing group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/03\/IMG_0042-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11315\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Remotely piloted aircraft are aircraft that do not have a\npilot on board. There are many types, several of which Chris exhibited at the\nMaker Faire.
