Wayne County Mini Maker Faire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wayne County Mini Maker Faire is a <strong>family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and\nresourcefulness<\/strong> and a celebration of the Maker Movement. &nbsp;It\u2019s\na place where people show what they are making and share what they are\nlearning.&nbsp; Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders\nto scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The\naim of Maker Faire is to <strong>entertain, inform, connect\nand grow this community.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/07\/IMG_19700214_130517-1024x765.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11815\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Daily Record said it best: \u201cDubbed the \u2018Greatest Show and\nTell on Earth\u2019; over <strong>1,200 people<\/strong> flocked to the third annual faire at the University\nof Akron Wayne College last May. &nbsp;It was a fresh experience with <strong>favorite makers from last year<\/strong> coming back along\nwith <strong>new makers<\/strong> and new things to see\nand do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fantasticon.net\/\">Fantasticon<\/a><\/strong> is a mid-size show in\nToledo, Ohio, created for true <strong>comic book and\npop culture collectors<\/strong> and fans.\nThe fans that come to its shows are true collectors that are looking for those\nrare items for their personal collections. Most leave very satisfied as the\nevent prides itself on having great dealers and artists at our shows. If you\ncollect it, you will find it at a Fantasticon show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"430\" height=\"140\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/07\/logoforwebsiteheader.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11819\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/07\/logoforwebsiteheader.png 430w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/07\/logoforwebsiteheader.png?resize=300,98 300w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/07\/logoforwebsiteheader.png?resize=425,138 425w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fantasticon.net\/\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve seen <strong>R2D2 of Star Wars\nfame<\/strong> rolling about the Wayne County\nMini Maker Faire these past three years, you\u2019ve seen the work of Kody Greene!\n&nbsp;He is interested in building movie props from Star Wars and Marvel\nmovies, robotic replicas, and 3D printing.&nbsp; Kody was interviewed at\nFantasticon on NBC 24.&nbsp; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/christina.greene3\/videos\/2349712801727373\/\">Check-out\nthis great interview<\/a>!<\/strong> (Facebook\nrequired)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/07\/kody-1024x574.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11823\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/christina.greene3\/videos\/2349712801727373\/\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are <strong>proud to\nshowcase Ohio makers<\/strong> participating in the Wayne County Mini Maker Faire.&nbsp; One of these people is <strong>Sarah Mullins.<\/strong>&nbsp; Sarah is a mother of two who\nenjoys sewing in her spare time. As a child, she was taught how to sew by her\ngrandmothers. &nbsp;In recent years, Sarah has started sewing for herself and\nher children. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/07\/sewing-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11827\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sarah sews clothing and other items using a regular sewing\nmachine and a serger.&nbsp; At the Wayne County Mini Maker Faire, she <strong>demonstrated hand embroidery<\/strong> using burlap in a small embroidery hoop.\n&nbsp;She also provided plastic needles with pre-cut yarn for young learners\nfor young learners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another group that participated in the Wayne County Mini\nMaker Faire is the <strong>Wooster Christian School Art\nClub.<\/strong>&nbsp; Their booth had examples of art, math, recycling,\npendulum painting with sand, 3D painting, recycling sculptures, and \u201cmake &amp;\ntake\u201d projects for attendees to build themselves.&nbsp; There was something for\neveryone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/07\/wcs-765x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11831\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Using <strong>recycled milk cartons<\/strong>,\nfaire attendees created their own bird houses or other objects. &nbsp;WCS also\nhad 3-D glasses available so attendees properly viewed the artwork their\nstudents had on display.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rounding out our participating makers is <strong>Bradley Howell of \u201cGear Time\u201d.<\/strong>&nbsp; As a kid, he\nwas always taking things apart to see why they didn&#8217;t work and if he could,\nrepair them.&nbsp; Bradley\u2019s father-in-law gave him an antique mantel clock\n(100 years old) which needed repair and he was totally impressed with the\ntechnology that was required to make it. &nbsp;Bradley started collecting and\nrepairing them and never looked back.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is currently the Vice President of the North Coast Chapter\n28 of the NAWCC, National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors.&nbsp;\nBradley has always been a history buff and have found that, <strong>part of the fun of clock repair is the research.<\/strong>\n&nbsp;Researching an antique clock is actually a study in the history of\nmanufacturing in America. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/07\/howell-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11835\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The objective of &#8220;Gear Time&#8221; is to demonstrate\nbasic tools and reveal age-old practices needed to <strong>fix\nwind-up gear-driven vintage timepieces.<\/strong> &nbsp;At the Wayne County\nMini Maker Faire, Bradley freely shared information on how best to explore this\nchallenging early technology. &nbsp;He talking about the Science, Technology,\nEngineering and Math skills that were required to design, build and repair\nearly American brass clock movements. A working 19th Century clock with exposed\nmovement was on display as well as an assortment of tools.
