{"id":11983,"date":"2019-09-19T09:35:53","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T13:35:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/?p=11983"},"modified":"2019-09-19T09:35:53","modified_gmt":"2019-09-19T13:35:53","slug":"laser-engraved-wedding-guest-book-3d-printed-illuminated-lithopanes-and-the-boy-scouts-of-america-trade-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/2019\/09\/19\/laser-engraved-wedding-guest-book-3d-printed-illuminated-lithopanes-and-the-boy-scouts-of-america-trade-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Laser engraved wedding guest book, 3D printed illuminated lithopanes, and The Boy Scouts of America Trade Show"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summer is with us for another six weeks; the brutally hot\ndays are more than enough reason to work on projects in the air conditioned 3D\nLab.&nbsp; Community members stop-by daily to use the laser engraver, 3D\nprinters, and vinyl cutter.&nbsp; Families who attended the Maker Faire earlier\nthis year visit the lab over the summer, too.&nbsp; It\u2019s been a busy place!&nbsp;\nWe are busy upgrading both Prusa 3D printers for better reliability with\nmulticolor printing, working out bugs with the full-color 3D printer, and\ngenerally preparing the lab for another busy fall semester.&nbsp; Engineering\nstudents will use the lab for CAD design and building parts for their LEGO\nMindstorms robots, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"533\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/09\/makers-club.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11955\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/09\/makers-club.jpg 533w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/09\/makers-club.jpg?resize=300,169 300w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/09\/makers-club.jpg?resize=425,239 425w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>New this semester is the new Wayne College Makers\nClub!&nbsp; It is a collaboration with students in similar clubs at local\nschools, building cool things together including robotics, 3D printing, and\nmore.&nbsp; Details coming soon!&nbsp; If you want to join the club or simply\nwant to know more, please reply to this email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A couple of weeks ago, 3D Lab staff Nathan married the woman\nof his dreams.&nbsp; To commemorate the wedding, they made a novel version of a\nwedding guest book, in the form of laser-cut puzzle pieces.&nbsp; Nathan\nstained a 24&#215;18\u201d plywood board, then laser cut a jigsaw puzzle design.&nbsp; As\nguests arrived, they signed their names on the pieces.&nbsp; Nathan and Paige will\nassemble the puzzle and frame it, a perfect memento of the friends and family\nwho attended this big event.&nbsp; What a great idea!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2019\/09\/IMG_20190731_192848-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11959\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A lithophane is an etched or molded artwork in very thin\ntranslucent material that can only be seen clearly when backlit with a light\nsource. &nbsp;3D printers are unusually good at making embossed photos. The\nprint results don\u2019t show much at first, but shine some light through one and\nyou\u2019ll be amazed by the details. The way it works is that light passes through\nthe thin parts while being blocked by the thick parts. Boy Scouts of\nAmerica hosted its annual Trade Show at the Dalton Middle and Grade\nSchool.&nbsp; Held in conjunction with The Baden-Powell Institute, the event is\na training symposium conducted for Scout leaders who cover the full array of\nScouting, from Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts to High Adventure Venture Crews.
